In terms of going kaput, I think you will find a lot of them do that Sir! Assuming you have the sender, have you tried a fix yet? Great 10 min video available. Is it the fuel light or the fuel gauge reading that is faulty or both? The three pin plug item that you have are getting a bit thin on the ground now so repair may be a good option.
