This should make you all laugh.
The helmet lock on the bike wouldn't stay shut. a quick google and it's a quick, and free fix..................
First to get the single bolt holding it to the bike removed. It budged about half a turn, and then nothing more. Then I rounded off the socket on the bolt.
Bought a different style of, bigger allen key that I could hammer into the socket on the bolt. No joy.
Bought a bolt removal kit, drilled a pilot hole, put in the remover, it just spun and didn't grip.
Decided to drill a bigger pilot hole. while doing this, the head of the bolt fell off and I was able to remove the lock.
I'm now left with the bolt. Mole grips. Nope!
Heat, everyone says heat, I've not had to use heat before - I don't have a blow torch..... but I do have a kitchen creme brulee torch........ fired it up, aimed at the stud, heat, smoke, pliers, stud removed! YAY!!!!!
One screw on the lock to open it, all good and yep, it's just dirty inside. A little clean, some oil and we're back in action! BINGO. Now to put back on the bike.
Oh, wait! I don't have the bolt any more, I destroyed that! measure the old stud, order a new bolt off Ebay. Bolt arrives, it's too short (I forgot to add on the top of the bolt that had fallen off.
Buy another, longer bolt. Hoooooorah, it fits, the working lock is now on my bike.
A couple of weeks later I took the bike out to boxhill and thought, ah, I can put my helmet on my now working (and expensively fixed) helmet lock.................... wait for it...........

It's coming.........
I forgot, my current helmet isn't a D ring helmet!!!!!!!!!!!! FML!!!!!!!
and THIS is exactly why I try to avoid DIY on my bike ha ha ha ha ha ha
