Am I wrong in thinking I cannot upload pictures from my I phone onto the forum?

You can, from any browser on any device. 
  • What error are you getting?
  • What image type are you trying to upload..? 
A while back I had image upload set so .jpeg/.gif (max 1MB/0.5MB) only. I have just now added .png and .webp, (max 2MB/1MB)

These limits are to keep the forum size on the server from ballooning out of control.
