SOLD - FZS600

Hi all,

absolutely gutted to have to do this but I need to sell "the old girl" due to buying a house. Thought I would see if I could find her a good home on here before trying ebay/FB market place. I maybe biased but the old girl is also in the best colour Smile

I have owned her since 2002 (yes 24 years, my first and only bike), has always been kept in a garage, and only been out on "nice days" (used to ride to work years ago so has been in the rain a few times on the way home or the odd shower when out and about when the weather changed). Never been in an accident or crashed, although I am ashamed to admit I did leave the disc lock on once and fell over on my side (scratched the belly pan and broke the little metal bar under the foot peg...the bit that lets you know you have lent over too far).

The good: Has done approximately 19k miles (the battery is completely dead so I can't check the actuall mileage, won't charge) and as you can see from the photos is generally in good condition (a lot better than me that is for sure Big Grin ). She has HEL braided brake lines, Venom race can (sounds really deep and fruity, unmarked so will pass an MOT), K&N filter (helps the fuelling as they run a bit rich as standard), double bubble tinted screen, belly pan and a scott oiler. I also have the factory end can (original to the bike) and screen, both in great condition.
The headlight (and reflectors) are also in really good condition (needs a clean out as there is a thin layer of really fine dust inside). The bike as also had ACF50 and XCP applied.

Up until 4 years ago she has only played up twice, one was due to a spark plug that failed (wouldn't rev past 6k) and the other the fork seals leaked after not being ridden much over the winter/rubbish weather when I took her for an MOT.

The bad: About 4 years ago when I went to start it in the winter the carbs were leaking fuel and it wouldn't run properly. I did buy a refurb seal kit off e-bay (they sell alot of bike carb kits) and had the carbs ultrasonically cleaned and me and my dad (always worked on cars and bikes since he was a teenager) swapped the o-rings (we didn't split the carbs apart from each other, kept them in the bank of 4). When I re-fitted the carbs and tried to start her up the carbs were still leaking fuel. Has been in the garage ever since then.

The fuel tank bolt thread (near head stock) will also need re-tapping as the screw thread is worn and will require a new bolt (easy job).

So she needs the carbs looking at (wondering if the bowl seals were no good as they did look a bit skinny), or the carbs need splitting totally apart and swapping all the o-rings. Will def need a new battery, a bloody good service (would be worth stripping the callipers etc) and although the tyres havn't done that many miles they are old so I would replace those as well.
The rubber fuel line from the tank to the fuel filter is quite hard as well. A chain and sprocket kit would be good to do as it has only been replaced once (at a Yamaha dealers) many years ago, the chain last forever due to the scottoiler. The chain has gone a bit rusty after been laid up.

She is a good honest bike but needs some tlc to bring her back to life. Like I say I am absolutely gutted to have to sell her but I am currently tyring to buy a house and with my mortgage and house costs I wouldn't have the money to get her back on the road. I also won't have a garage anymore.

I am open to offers. Would love for her to go to a good home. I am in Norwich and am more than happy if anyone wanted to come over to have a proper look. Also if anyone has any questions fire away. I can also throw in the Optimate charger, disc lock and I am fairly sure I have some of the service bits in the garage (currently clearing that out). I did clean the K&N and fit a new fuel filter when I cleaned out the carbs.

I can only post 4 photos, if anyone can help me to upload the others I can send them to you.
I will also be keeping the number plate as a keeps sake (not the reg, just the plate). I gave her a quick wash this afternoon and have plenty of photos (unsure how many I can post on here).

Thanks, I have plenty more photos (can only upload 4 on here) so I will see if I can host them somewhere and post a link later. Still clearing the junk out the garage, amazing how much you collect over the years.
I have always washed her after a ride out, get rid of the bugs etc and has been stored in the garage under a cover (Oxford). Doubt there any many left in this condition.

When I first got her I used to ride to work in the summer/ dry days, mostly used as a weekend/summer bike once I moved out of my parents (was stored in their garage). Once I moved to Norwich (16 years ago) we had a garage so she came here and was ridden in the summer and the odd winter ride to blow the cobwebs out.

Only reason I am selling is due to buying a house (rent at the moment and landlord is selling the house). The house I am trying to buy doesn't have a garage, and I won't have the spare funds to get her back on the road even though I would love to do so.

Here is a link to some more photos: https://flic.kr/ps/47LUjW
The mark on the fairing cover was from the last time I replaced the brake fluid, spilt a little bit and it stained the plastic.

Last MOT ran out on 06/07/2021. I have all the side covers and screws etc (not refitted since I had the carbs off). End can is a Viper (not venom Big Grin).
As well as the optimate charger I have a Haynes manual and an oxford protex cover (fabric, not waterproof) I can throw in.

Open to reasonable offers as I know she needs some tlc and some money spent to get her back on the road.

Evening mate,

I've been looking for a decent, honest and hopefully cheap bike to start working on the carbs and playing around with performance jet kits for them.

But finding the right one has been difficult.

This looks genuinely good for the year! I'd love to chat some more.... can I drop you a message?

Best wishes

Any takers at £650 before I list it elsewhere ?

Forgot to say I am the 3rd owner and has been a local bike since new. Came from "Tinklers" in Norwich, the local Yamaha dealers.
I am in NR6 area of Norwich, about 5 mins from airport.

Just a quick one (ooh err) to say the old girl has now been sold. She is off to a good home, but will be bloody weird to see her go after all these years.

I have been following this thread with interest. If I was in the market I would have snapped your hand off at the price you were looking for. I think that is a real steal but shows how the market is. As long as both buyer and seller are happy it’s a win all round. Must be a bit of a wrench seeing her go after that length of ownership though. Ho hum, life moves on.

Agreed, thought about it for myself at that price but more a case of not wanting to refuse a bargain than needing another one.....

I could def have got more for her if I would have posted on FB etc as I bet there are only a handful (if that) in the condition mine is in. Mainly been used as a weekend bike in dry weather and always cleaned and put back in the garage after a ride. But I also know she needs some TLC as been off the road for 4 years, tyres, carbs need sorting, new battery, fork seals, more than likely needs the callipers etc taking apart.....a very good full service. All those bits add up, especially if you can't do the work yourself.

I tried to be as honest as I could with the condition and work required, as you can see from the photos I believe she is very tidy. The reason I posted on here is I wanted her to go to a good home. Going to be difficult to see the old girl go after all these years (still in the garage at the moment). The guy who bought it seems to be the right person to look after her. Really didn't want to sell, but trying to buy a house and won't have a garage.

I feel for you mate, but she will be looked after. I'll take photos along the way and and will post a section on here of its progress!

I've even broken the news to the wife and survived to write this post! Haha

See you this weekend ?

Be good to see her back on the road, def going to miss the fruity exhaust note Big Grin and the rides out up the coast. Be nice to see what you end up doing, get her to go as good as she looks.
