Tail storage
#1
Hi, good to belong to the owners club!
I bought my 2007 FZ6 S2 as my first bike after passing my test some years ago.
Often looked at alternatives but personally don't see anything coming close.
I know tech has moved on considerably but the comfort, speed, reliability and exhilaration of that in-line 4 is hard to beat!
Anyway! I am looking for tail storage for smaller trips. I want something that is accessible whilst situated on the bike (which I think rules out the wrap around option), easy to install and remove.
Wondered what experience there is out there on the best choice.
Thanks,
Alistair

Welcome to the forums.

I have had boxes on the back of my bikes for years. Great for storing the big lock when your riding somewhere, your helmet and gloves when you get there or an overnight bag for that longer trip. Can even fit the laptop in there is i want to use it to go to work.

If you go that route though, make sure you get a proper rack, not the cheapo sports jobs that can crack.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, do you want something accessible *whilst* you're sitting on the bike? If so, there's a lot of magnetic tank bags available.

For more space, get a Top Box, Yamaha do an OEM rack that clamps to the grab rails and will take a standard Givi or similar box.

If you really want to carry stuff, you'll need panniers, but, due to the underseat pipes on the FZ6, you'd need the Givi PLX 360 mounting kit that replace the exhaust clamps and secures to the passenger foot pegs. (You may need to extend the wires to the rear indicators, but that's easy with a set of wire crimpers and connectors).

I use the full panniers/ top box/ tank bag and tent bungeed to the rear seat when I go camping without any problems.

Thanks, yes I see I should have been clearer.
I meant able access stuff from the bag/box without having to take it off the bike.
I don’t need anything too large so the Givi or Oxford 30 litre size looks good.
I see I need a ‘Monolock’ plate to fit the box though – any experience of that?

The Monolock plate is a type of givi top plate that fits to the arms you buy in the kit to make the complete rack. The other type of Givi plate/box is the Monokey so you need to get the right one though there are adaptor plates to attach if needed.
