What did you do with whatever else you've got?

I've never been to sure about engine covers like that. Surely they keep heat in the engine rateer than let the air carry heat away., particularly if they are fitted over the electrical components

yes, sure they keep.

thats the reason, why they are used on track&race bikes as well. There engines face higher temperatures mainly during summer.

I got similar on my track R1 - 1999, and I never had an issue with the alternator or cluch, or anything else because of a heat.
