What did you do with whatever else you've got?
I agree. Small, neat, and a doddle to install. I was struggling to find space on the bars, until I spotted the brackets that utilize the mirror mount

Early start yesterday to get up to Epsom Downs to watch the Pioneer Run entrants depart. Weather was better than forecast, and would have been a good opportunity for a day on the Triumph to see how my recently dislocated shoulder would hold up. However a pre arranged afternoon commitment put a stop to that. Not so many took part as previous years. Maybe the interest in really old bikes, pre 1915 is the qualifying age I think, is severely on the wane , as we all get older….or some of us do.

Two boxes of goodies arrived today, parts and a new exhaust for the Striple. Once the grandson had gone back home, a very chilled out evening in the cave fitting on the new bars and controls. A few hours to spend on the Discovery tomorrow for a change of scenery, then back on the bike for exhaust fitting Sunday. If you just sit down, you get old

Rebuilt the rear calliper on the Speed Triple today, as the brake is mediocre at the best of times. Nearly fell over when I went to get a seal kit…… £38 for four glorified rubber bands?. Forecast is good for Sunday, which is a result as it’s the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, which always encourages people to get out their classic modes of transport. Hopefully it stays sunny.

Last Sunday, being the first Sunday in November, signalled the return of the annual Veteran car run from London to Brighton. Fortunately the forecast was true and stayed dry all day. The early starters left London at 7am, and my plan was to get to the Full Monty Cafe, just south of Coulsdon for 8ish. With the Triumph fired up it was a quick stop at the local atm, then off to the cafe to meet up with some others.
Once parked up and with a doorstep sausage sandwich with compulsory brown sauce in hand, it was time to sit back and enjoy the show. As much as I admire the fact that the competing vehicles are in excess of 100 years old, I must admit to being more impressed by the Mk1 Cortina’s and Yank hot rods in the cafe car park, the rods complete with wheely bars and parachutes, so serious drag cars. The event always brings out interesting later machinery, bikes, cars, trucks, in fact anything with an engine.
By 9.30 most of the competitors had passed by, so we saddled up and followed their route as far as Crawley, before getting on to more enjoyable roads, to take us to The Chalet cafe at Cowfold for a cuppa and a chinwag. Lunch was to be in Brighton after watching some of the cars cross the finishing line on Madeira Drive.
Our return journey was on familiar favourite roads, the Speed Triple still performing well. This had been my first proper ride since my August crash, and any injury discomfort was more than manageable fortunately, which bodes well for the future. There’s not much more to do on the Fazer, so hopefully it won’t be long before she’s back on the road. Tickets are booked for February’s Dragon Rally, might be the first one for the Fazer.

Some pics from Sunday.

Just a few more

Boxing Day was no doubt my last riding day of 2024, with a visit to The Pied Bull at Farningham Village in Kent, for the annual VMCC meet. Over the last 30 or so years, this has morphed into quite a spectacular, that virtually shuts the entire village for a few hours.
It's a waste of time trying to get a beer as the pub is always rammed, and the tea/coffee/soup/bacon roll queue was almost as bad. Due to the number of people there, it was impossible to get any individual bike pics, so I can only include a few general overviews of the event.
There is a youtube filmclip entitled "100's shutdown village", posted by Ducati_Dad_1199s, which will give anyone who is interested, a fair idea of what this meeting is like.

A few general pics.

Removed the front calipers from the Street Triple this afternoon, to clean the pistons up and check operation and remove any stiction. All went well, lovely afternoon, 70s rock playing, heated jacket on, keeping my hibernating tortoise company. This burst of activity was preceded by one of those "what the heck are you watching" debates with my wife. A type of cooking programme with celebrities, not one of whom I recognised. Incredibly dull. so off out for a run of around 3 miles down the canal towpath, showered, then off into the garage for some me time.

Agricola, I’m presuming your Street Triple is now a cat “N”. Have you had an insurance renewal quote yet?., and is it up to you to notify DVLA of its changed status. Mines almost ready for an MOT, and insurance renewal next month.

That's correct, it was registered as a Cat N. Once it was repaired, I took it for an MOT and it passed with no advisories. I did tell the tester and asked him just to have a real good look at the bike while testing, he found nothing untoward. I'm not sure its up to me to notify DVLA, I always understood that was the responsibility of the insurer. The insurance is not due for renewal until May, I'm not looking forward to it, although the bike is every bit as roadworthy as it was before the crash. Have to say, I'm giving serious thought to going down to one bike before then.

I’ve googled the question “ who informs the dvla” and the answer seems to be the owner. I’ve repaired my bike myself, just the MOT to do. My insurer told me over the phone that the bike is now a cat n, when the buy back price was negotiated. When you say your bike was registered as a Cat N, who registered it as such. Maybe the garage that carried out the repair on your behalf.

I repaired the bike myself, the only part repaired by others was the tank, I found someone local who did an excellent job of that and the side cover. The mechanical stuff was just swapping parts for a mix of new and used. I would be staggered if, when it comes to renewal and I give the registration of the bike to the broker, he didnt know the bike was written off. As its been repaired and has an MOT, why should it cost more to insure? Im still riding it on the same policy.

I would do a check to make sure it is still covered as insurance companies normally end the policy when the write off a vehicle.

Heres what the policy states:

Retaining salvage does not guarantee that your insurer will be willing to continue to insure your bike.
In the event of the salvaged bike being subject to another claim, documented evidence of
repairs and other documentation will be required to evidence, and to satisfy us, that your bike
has been maintained in a roadworthy condition. If the correct documentation is not provided at
the time of the loss, the valuation will be affected.

I would still check they are actually still covering it - just check your online account

Well good news, my insurance is still valid. Rang DVLA regarding Cat N, but apparently the insurance must have informed them, so good to go for an MOT tomorrow.??
