Is it possible to adjust preload with c spanner whilst shock is on bike . Cannot get tool in for coolant reservoir or compression adjuster.

Simple answer, yes. I'm assuming it is the OE shock, of course.
Are you using the extension bar that comes with the toolkit C spanner?
