The Great Mirror Debate - Ned Jough - 13-06-25

Ok, I have read lots of old threads regarding mirrors. I have a perfectly good set of original mirrors on my 1998 boxeye without a scratch on them. Problem is it’s driving me nuts just seeing my right elbow. Oddly, the near side is not an issue. Is the general consensus it’s well worth fitting the later Foxeye or Fazer 1000 mirrors.? It seems the jury may still be out but I’m happy to source and pay for used OEM mirrors if it’s going to make a substantial improvement. Don’t want to waste £50.00 if it makes little difference. Thanks.

Nah just get your self used to doing the funky chicken.
I got some after market ones that spec seemed to indicate the stem was longer but the problem is the mirror was smaller resulting in a worse view than the OEM

is there not someone selling bigger base plates that lift them clear and help with this?

The FZS1000 mirrors bolt straight on and are slightly longer - they work for me.

Can you elaborate please on “slightly longer”. Is that 100mm or more? Thanks.

10-20mm - oh and mount them back to front - i.e Left on the right and right on the left to give a better angle.

And the bonus if you do that is that the image in the mirror wont be reversed. Big Grin

Ok, did a 100 miles today with the sole intention of getting the offside mirror as good as it can get. My conclusion was that if I just adjust my elbow positioning slightly I can live with it. It’s not brilliant but it will do. I’m just a bit paranoid about being able to see Police pursuit cars before they pursue me.

Like I said - get used to doing the funky chicken. When you want to see behind in the mirror - bend your elbow in.
