FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - Bikelife - 23-10-24 Greetings to everyone! After just a day of not riding my '2000 FZS 600 developed misfire on 2 and 3 : idle revs are lower, power loss and does not pick up revs like before. It has spark but when removing the cap from cylinder 2 or 3 at idle nothing changes but when from 1 or 4 it dies immediately . I cleaned the carbs (didn't split them, only the jets and diaphragms so the mixture and synchronization settings remained the same) but it did not help. Need to mention that pilot screws are turned more than 2 turns out like the book says, on 3 particularly it looks turned out about all the way and both 2 and 3 were running a bit rich with black ish spark plugs. I never messed them before and rode the bike for 17 thousand km. But when you inject some quick start to carbs 2,3 revs go up a bit but if to 1,4 it just dies. I am sure I could smell petrol on the spark plug 3 and there's definitely enough gas in float chamber. Now the electrics: I tried old and new spark plugs, the coil resistance is correct, the plugs boots too, swapping 'new' used coil does nothing. Maybe someone had a similar problem? Earlier in the summer a few times after starting it did not run evenly as if on 3 cylinders, but after warming up or at some point it just fixed itself and I thought it was the faulty old plugs. RE: FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - BBROWN1664 - 23-10-24 #2&3 use the same coil so could be coil or lead related. Try swapping the coils over and see if the problem moves to #1&4 instead. RE: FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - BBROWN1664 - 23-10-24 Undo the drain screw on #2 and 3 and see if you get any fuel out - may be a blocked feed pipe. There's fuel in float chambers as I wrote in the first post. RE: FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - BBROWN1664 - 24-10-24 Does it "clear-up" at higher revs (above 5K) and run normally? If so, look at replacing the idle jets as they may be clogged or damaged allowing too much fuel through. If its bad through the whole rev range, do a compression test RE: FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - darrsi - 26-10-24 Just a thought, but after "a day of not riding" did you wash the bike at all, more specifically using a hosepipe? No, the bike was outside under the bike cover (case) but it was raining. The bike works like that through the whole rev range, it's not revving like it should. Just got a compression tester, will keep you posted on that. Is there a way of uploading video directly or only through YouTube link? RE: FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - Bikelife - 26-10-24 So compression look like this: 1-155 psi 2-157 psi 3-158 psi 4-171 psi But there's some new stuff. While revving up at first got fire from the exhaust (looks cool but it never happened before) and after a bit of it engine started to work like clean, like it should. Took it for a spin, after up to 10 min it started worsening and died out. But fired up again so I went for a bigger circle around. After some time got worse and died. Barely started and quickly died again. Pushed halfway to my garage (luckily I wasn't far at the point the battery went out) but got too tired so went for another bike, jumpstarted and got back. Sparkplug 3 doesn't look wet like it was getting to much fuel but I've seen it wet before so I suppose it gets some. After a few minutes when I was writing this fired right up What in the hell is going on... RE: FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - jimjenko - 10-12-24 Did you manage to figure this one out? RE: FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - BBROWN1664 - 10-12-24 When it dies, listen carefully and open the fuel tank - does it hiss? If so, kinked breather tubes preventing fuel getting to the carbs RE: FZS 600 misfire on 2 and 3 cylinder - Bikelife - 11-12-24 (10-12-24, 05:30 PM)jimjenko Wrote: Did you manage to figure this one out? "Redline a day keeps the pain away". After that only had to change the fuel filter and bike runs like before. Right now getting the valves adjusted, new cam chain and carbs adjusted. Can't say for sure what was the initial problem though. |
