Revs dropping when idling - shieldr - 14-09-24 Hi after nearly 5 years idle in the garage the bike is running great apart from the revs dipping periodically when idling. The question is What to try first? Am thinking 1. Air filter 2. Plugs 3. Leads 4. Carb balance (not by me) To be honest I think I changed the plugs and leads before the storage period so I fear it may be a carb thing which is a bit beyond my skill set. TIA for any tips. Richard RE: Revs dropping when idling - unfazed - 14-09-24 I would check in this order Caps and Leads, Plugs, Air filter, then carbs, clean and balance, I was chasing a similar issue on a 600 recently and went in the opposite direct to find it was Plug Caps/leads/coils breaking down when hot and tracking. Swapped the caps for NGK ones and it improved a bit untill I finally changed the lot. Bought a set of very Clean Coils and caps (no corrosion/tarnishing at all internally) for €50 and it sorted the problem. It was an issue I had not come across before on the Fazer Breaking down when hot is a pain because when you start it cold it is fine, which pointed to carbs RE: Revs dropping when idling - shieldr - 14-09-24 (14-09-24, 04:00 PM)unfazed Wrote: I would check in this order Caps and Leads, Plugs, Air filter, then carbs, clean and balance, Thanks for the advice. Earlier on I took the plugs out, gave them a wire brush and checked the gaps. They look brand new to me. So as per your advice am thinking caps and leads next. Cheers. RE: Revs dropping when idling - RMT1983 - 29-09-24 I can refurbish the carbs if required. Check out the carb servicing post on here. Hi there, I am interested in carbs refurb. I am in Glasgow. How will that work? Not sure what post you're referring to. Thanks, Richard. |
