Head race replacement - robbo - 04-09-24

I haven't started this job yet, but looking at pics the original bearings were old style cup and cone. Suppliers like Marksman only sell a replacement tapered roller bearing. Converting to tapered on my old Fireblade didn't work out too well, as needed regular adjustment. What's best, source the original style or go with tapered.

Hi Robbo,

I’m almost certain these bearings are FZS1000.

At one point I had some R1 forks and had to get a spare yoke to press the stem into it. These came with it.

Look ok, I’ll post them to you if you want them?

Hi Trebus,
That’s very kind of you and much appreciated. Hopefully I’ll start bolting bits back on soon, rather than continually taking stuff off?

I have both my FZS600 and FZS1000 converted to Taper bearings and bought from MarkMans Bearing. Incidently they take exactly the same bearing. Torque them to 50 newtons to seat then and release then then torque them tback to 18Nm Never had to touch them since. That was 15000miles ago. Most likely the were not torqued up fully to seat them first and then retorqued.
Bottom race is fiddly to fit to head stock without a race fitting kit
