Fibreglass advice needed - fazersharp - 15-08-24
I have some resin and hardener that is mixed 1-1/2 I have had it for about 4 years left over from a DIY job.
Its the epoxy resin type and the info says a shelf life of 4 months --- yeah they just say that - right. But I can not get it to set and go off so it appears that it does indeed have a shelf life.
But could it just be the hardener or just be the epoxy resin that I need new.
I didn't realise about different resins and think I should of got the Polyester Resin one that cures very fast with MEKP
For reference I was going to repair a broken freezer drawer.

Just bumping this. I I was thinking people have had experience in repairing broken fairings, although my use is general DIY

My only experience was with a soldering iron and using cable ties to melt into the splits. Astonishingly, it worked

Sounds amazing. using them like welding rods.

been a while but I found it was the hardener that went off or maybe I was just lucky.
I just buy what I need now always end up with matting left maybe i use too much resin!
Rebuilt parts of my sons fairings on his lexmoto there are fibreglass not plastic so repair took really well

Thanks, so maybe it would of been the wrong thing to use on a plastic freezer draw anyway. I have repaired for now with a super glues - actually a mitre glue and then some wide aluminium tape

That should hold the aluminium tape alone would be strong enough for most applications. plastics respond well to glues better with heat and filler ie plastic cable tie. Or the hot staple type plastic welders
