My First bike FZS600 - Brokenborow89 - 02-12-19 Hi guys Introducing my first bike my FZS600 26k. Had it a week and almost as long as my licence and been easing into the biking world. It came it rad panels and belly panels, take them off for the attached pics as I’m between fixing niggles and also I’m in two minds weather to keep them off or on. Maintenance is part of fun for me so....... Given it some fresh filters, oils, and plugs since I had it. checked valve clearances all nicely within spec Slight niggles misfire on tickover and low rpm rolling on throttle, fresh fuel with additives added, done plugs, got new plug caps on the way, have a carb balance gauges on the way but I’m expecting the carbs out and clearing pilot jets soon. In particular no 4 which the manifold is touchable after start up compared to 123. Also checked the TPS is happy. So you guys think I’m missing anything Still wind her up and she’s eager to go took it for my first exploratory trip to Minehead as pictured. Re: My First bike FZS600 - mtread - 02-12-19 Lovely looking Foxeye :thumbup Re: My First bike FZS600 - Trebus - 02-12-19 Looks nice. Be sure to check those original rubber brake hoses as they’ll be getting on a bit now. Braided upgrades are recommended. Re: My First bike FZS600 - Brokenborow89 - 02-12-19 Added to the shopping list Re: My First bike FZS600 - Dynspud - 03-12-19 Check the front sprocket nut is not loose, including the threads on the shaft, and do the wider nut upgrade if it needs one. Big safety upgrade that is highly recommended. Yeh forgot to mention I have done this, it wasn’t loose but it was the old thinner nut. Re: My First bike FZS600 - Dynspud - 05-12-19 :thumbup Re: My First bike FZS600 - mtread - 05-12-19 Are they the original black downpipes? If so, although on the Foxeye the pipes are stainless, the collector box is mild. Watch out for rust and it blowing. Re: My First bike FZS600 - vinnyb - 05-12-19 Hi Mate, welcome to the club :thumbup Nice bike, best model in the best colour, (Same as mine) although as you'll find out, for some reason the blue ones come in for a bit of stick on here (envy, I reckon) You're so lucky to live close to Minehead, have you done Porlock Hill/ Countisbury Hill on it yet? I’m pretty sure they have been renewed fairly recently, All the nuts and studs look fresh and the rear silencer looks as good as new, would like to get a new end can soon any recommendations? Re: My First bike FZS600 - YamFazFan - 06-12-19 I'd hang on to the original silencer if you decide to swap for a different one in case you decide to put it back to standard, although you'd sell it easy enough. Unmarked ones are pretty hard to come by now and they're no longer available from Yamaha, even at the bonkers list price. I've got a Fuel oval. Been on for 15 years and still looks good. Removable baffle, so you have options ![]() Other silencers are available.... Re: My First bike FZS600 - mtread - 06-12-19 Quote: Have you had your 600 from new?Oh yes. 2 November 2002. 48k miles, but I do have others Re: My First bike FZS600 - YamFazFan - 06-12-19 Has yours got just the tuning fork logo on the tank? Re: My First bike FZS600 - mtread - 06-12-19 Yep, makes it one of the final 2003 models I think. Oh and it's red, as you would expect ![]() When I took it in for its first annual service, the dealer suggested I trade it in for one of the new FZS models. I politely declined.... Yeah same model as mine then, except it was registered in April 2003, is silver and I bought it at 3 years old. What I'm leading to is a question. Has yours got the carbon effect clock surround and if so did it come with it as standard or did you specify it as an optional extra?. Re: My First bike FZS600 - mtread - 06-12-19 Yes it's got the carbon effect surround around the rev counter and fuel gauge. Not specified by me, I thought they all came like that? Mind you, my bike was pre - registered by the dealer to hit his sales targets, so who knows? Re: My First bike FZS600 - YamFazFan - 07-12-19 The reason I asked is because I have the original Yamaha sales brochure for my bike and the carbon look clock surround is listed as an optional extra in that. I'd always assumed that the person who bought mine new had specified it, but I then read a while ago ( probably in a review or some such) that the last models of the FZS 600 came with that as standard. Therefore I needed to ask someone who's owned the same model from new in order to satisfy my curiosity as to which is correct :lol |
