Headlight reflector thingy - Farmboy81 - 12-11-19 Hi all, I noticed last night while doing some other bits and pieces to the bike that the cone/reflector/cover thing that sits over the dip beam bulb in the headlight has is pointing downwards as the top mount has broken off completely! I know I've seen someone on here talking about removing it, but I can't find the post because I can't remember what the cone/reflector/cover thing is called! So, is it necessary and needs repairing? Should I just remove it? If so, how? And of course, What's it called???? Thanks in advance ![]() Re: Headlight reflector thingy - darrsi - 13-11-19 Mine's removed. Not 100% but think it had to come out of the H4 side? It was a long time ago. Re: Headlight reflector thingy - Farmboy81 - 13-11-19 Thanks Darrsi, I'll have a look this weekend. Does removing the thingy improve the lights at all? Re: Headlight reflector thingy - darrsi - 13-11-19 (13-11-19, 01:34 PM)Farmboy81 link Wrote: Thanks Darrsi, I'll have a look this weekend. No, not at all, if anything it scatters the light more. I have good bulbs in my headlights, but it's the reflector part that is the problem, basically it's shite. I put some cheap spotlights on the sides of the radiator and they are much whiter and brighter than the headlights. I use them all year round, night and day. Re: Headlight reflector thingy - Fazerider - 13-11-19 Darrsi is correct, the shroud over the H1 bulb will come out through the hole for the H4 on the right. Without it there is a fair bit of glare, I rigged up a smaller replacement from a bit of metal cut from a beer can. Alternatively, it’s possible (with a lot of work) to enlarge the hole and make up a mounting plate to fit an H4 bulb to make the left match the right. Re: Headlight reflector thingy - Farmboy81 - 14-11-19 Thanks guys, I reckon I'll try and repair the mount, and if that goes horribly wrong at least I know how to get it out, I assume yours passes MOT without it? I already have 2 spotlights fitted to the radiator which makes a huge difference, but I find that if I have them angled where it's best for me to see at night I start get flashed by oncoming drivers, so I have to settle for dodging mud and roadkill 20 yards at a time! (Still better than not being able to see at all though!) |
