Oil Leak - old son - 09-11-19 I have an oil leak that seems to be coming from the area around the bottom of the casing that has the gear change spindle coming through it. If it's the gasket that has blown then I presume I can do this with the engine in-situ? Why would this gasket blow for no obvious reason? Is there anything else in this area that could cause an oil leak? I notice two oil feed pipes just below the cover. The oil leak seems to be above these pipes but is it worth removing these at the same time and changing the O rings on the ends (if they have O rings to seal)? The leak is serious enough that I cant use the bike until the leak is resolved, any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks Re: Oil Leak - old son - 09-11-19 I'm not sure if it has any relevance but whilst I was tracing the leak I found the breather pipe from the air box (the one with the chamber fitted towards the bottom section) was totally blocked. I cleaned it all through but it has made no difference. I guess this blockage could not have caused the gasket to blow in the first place? Re: Oil Leak - Falcon 269 - 10-11-19 Hi mate, Check out this thread and a load of others on the FZ1OA site: http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56145&highlight=shift+cover+gasket+oil+leak Search using 'shift cover gasket oil leak' and you'll get a lot of info. ![]() Re: Oil Leak - old son - 10-11-19 Thanks Mike, I must admit I did take a look after my post and saw there were issues in the states. Iam surprised not to have heard too much of the issue over here. I've got the cover off and scraped the old gasket off, Got some minor scratches, Will run a scotchbrite over the surfaces, run a very thin layer or high temp RTV on the mating services and bolt it together. I think torque is 7.5ft/Ibs? A new gasket is £17!!! Re: Oil Leak - Falcon 269 - 10-11-19 Who remembers making gaskets out of Cornflakes boxes and red Hermetite? ![]() Re: Oil Leak - ogri48 - 10-11-19 :lol :thumbup Re: Oil Leak - old son - 11-11-19 I don't eat cornflakes, I'll order a proper one lol Re: Oil Leak - steve 10562cc - 11-11-19 I found Rice Crispies packets were better :lol Re: Oil Leak - fazerscotty - 11-11-19 (10-11-19, 09:40 PM)Falcon 269 link Wrote: Who remembers making gaskets out of Cornflakes boxes and red Hermetite? Haha lol. Once found myself out on the Gower with a leaking alternator gasket and no tools on a GS Suzuki. Found a cheap socket set in a Tesco's, some Hermatite stuff in a motor spares place and bought a case of Carlsberg. Drank the beer and made a gasket out of the cardboard case.
