Clutch maybe? - spinus - 11-06-18 Hi all I’ve developed a fault on my fzs 1000 It’s done 13000 ish miles and standard Apart from a can It’s a 52 reg My problem is it’s like the clutch never fully Disengages Pulling always fine the biting point is and always has been fine It’s when you change down If your in second and dip the clutch whilst rolling And rev the throttle you can feel the clutch Trying to spin the gearbox But when stationary first gear clutch in No problem Re: Clutch maybe? - BBROWN1664 - 11-06-18 Bike clutches always drag as they are in oil. They work a bit like an car (old style) automatic gearbox as a result. Have you got 3-4mm of free pay at the lever? How far from all the way in to all the way out is the biting point when pulling away? Re: Clutch maybe? - spinus - 11-06-18 Yep All adjustments are fine Clutch cable is perfect The only reason I mention it is I’ve noticed it develop I’m very good at changing gear sympathetically I normally change up clutchless But it near impossible to change down without a crunch It’s as if only half the clutch is working Re: Clutch maybe? - Gnasher - 11-06-18 Check the shift shaft, or it's possible you've damaged/bent a selector. All that said on a bike with only 13k on it there should really be no issues with any of this. Has this just started or has there been a problem for a while that's just been getting worse, how long have you had the bike or is it new to you? Re: Clutch maybe? - b1k3rdude - 11-06-18 Are you using the stock oem clutch lever..? if yes and the cable and the clutch-arm are working fine then you might have slightly warped clutch plates (replace) or the fingers of the clutch basket are worn (file smooth with a small non-course file) Re: Clutch maybe? - spinus - 11-06-18 Owned it a couple of years Knew the owner before me and he owned it from a 1000 miles It’s definitely the clutch as changing up is seamless It’s the downshift where you need a clutch is the problem Take the clutch out the equation and the gearbox is perfect Re: Clutch maybe? - spinus - 11-06-18 Have I read somewhere about a bing Falling out in the clutch somewhere That makes the clutch run dry? I’ve also gave it a oil change but still the same I’ve noticed the problem since I’ve started using it this year Don’t get me wrong it’s still fine to ride but the downshift is harsh It’s not a crunch more like a heavy change But I know it’s changed My brother rides a bmw 800 gs And he thought it was perfect Re: Clutch maybe? - spinus - 11-06-18 Oh and standard lever On a side note I have a air of short levers and a aluminium handlebar clamp If someone wants the levers they can have them They can have the billet handlebar clamp if they give me the standard clamps Re: Clutch maybe? - Falcon 269 - 12-06-18 http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59420 This is the bung you referred to and it could be responsible for your problem. Re: Clutch maybe? - spinus - 12-06-18 Cheers I’ll whip my cover off and have a look see Cheers Re: Clutch maybe? - spinus - 15-06-18 A bit of a update Readjusted the clutch cable and went for a few days to see my brother on the south coast The gear change has been perfect Whether it was lack of use or readjusting the cable Happy days and thanks for the helpful replies |
