Knocking through footrests when coming off the throttle - shieldr - 20-02-18

Hi All

As of yesterday my fantastic fazer has a knocking sensation coming through the footrests. This is not apparent so much when accelerating but occurs when coming off the throttle to slow down.

My guess is chain link sticking a bit but couldn’t see too much in the gloom tonight.

Any tips appreciated

I think your on the right track, seized links or worn out chain/sprockets , chain to slack adjust if poss.

Also might be worth checking the front sprocket nut is tight if above doesn't sort your problem.

Thanks. To be honest I think it is time for a chain and sprocket change. 30k miles and I’ve had her since 18k. Any brand recommendations? There is a vast range on fleabay. Ta.

Front sprocket worn out for sure.
I always buy separates as you can get them cheaper than sets and would highly recommend DID xvm chain and renthal sprockets.
Best bet for the chain is search eBay for the size and number of links.  I can get one for a BMW 20 quid cheaper than one for the Fazer but it's the same chain just sold for different bikes.

Could be just a slack chain

DID x ring every time for me, a tried and tested classic.

Put the bike on the centre stand and have a look at each chain link. When they stick or rust they tend to position at an angle rather than horizontally so fairly easy to spot.
Once they sieze up there’s little chance of it being good again, even with a bit of manipulation and cleaning/lubing.
The knocking on the footpeg tells me you will find some links at an angle, so time for a new chain & sprocket kit.

D.I.D. X Ring is what i stick to as well, as long as you keep them lubed, with the occasional clean they’ll last a long time. Saying that, if you neglect any chain then they will fail on you sooner rather than later even from new.

No need to buy the ‘extra’ heavy duty version though.

Thanks Darrsi. Will take your advice. The current stuff owes me nothing so hey ho...

Had very similar probs with my 600.New chain solved the knocking.
