Has anyone successfully fitted a cheap aftermarket tacho? - Just a Faze im in - 22-01-18

I've fitted a cheap chinese one and its all over the place.

It's not the speedo disconnect causing the issue as the revs bounce around well before 8k revs.

Has anyone successfully fitted a cheap tacho?

yep i used the cheap chinese koso rx2 knockoff and it worked fine at first (apart from fuel guage)
it takes some working out of the instructions you basically have to make your own list for what controls what (still have it i think somewhere)
i do advise taking it apart first and water sealing it with some silicone and waterproof spray the printed circuit board first (i didnt)
unless your asking about the tacho only which ive only fitted to a couple of small bikes but they are generally fine and easy to fit

I bought a Chinese Koso rip off and it was shit! Sent it back and bought a Koso. Quality items and have had one fitted to my ZRX1200R for a number of years and still going strong and has been subjected to very heavy rain a couple of times.

will be getting a proper koso at some point but cant afford it at the moment

Second hand Koso's regularly pop up on ebay.

Thanks but I'm not talking about the kosos.

I'm talking about the really cheap £5 ones on ebay. The one I have at the moment isn't working anywhere near correctly and I'm wondering if perhaps its faulty. I've bought another one and will see if the new one is any better.

shouldnt have any problems fitting one of those although you will have to splice in some wires as you need
please check these before taking my word for it (or someone else verify )

ignition power  -  brown i think
earth -  Black
tacho pulse - yellow/black
you might have a wire just for ilumination - i think bright blue is the one for if your headlights are on

I knew you weren't talking about Koso's, just mentioned that I bought a Chinese one, it was shit, so I sent it back and bought a Koso.

If it only cost you £5 then that tells you all you need to know. Just buy a Koso, Acewell, etc and save yourself some grief.

Bought an el-cheapo chinese speedo for 20 euros. You'll have to make a bracket to hold it in place. Works fine so far and it looks way better than the original one. Smile

Have you a link to el cheapo speedo ?? I assume all the imputs, lights, dips, indicators, full light etc are straigh forward to wire in.
How does the tacho/speedo hook up to the original. stupid Q maybe i dont even know how the original works

Another option is to go down the mechanical speedo route?
The speedo drive from the thundercat is a direct swap.  Smile
