Fairing removal - HarryHornby - 19-12-17
And so it begins, you know any DIY project on my bike wouldn't be complete without a "what am I doing post" from me.
Following the instructions in the Haynes manual I've removed the infills, removed mirrors, removed the brackets that the mirrors connect to and I've unplugged the lights and indicators.
Apparently, I can now just withdraw the fairing from the bike, or maybe not, it won't budge.
Should the lights come out with the fairing or do I need to undo those from the fairing? If so, any idea what bolts I should be attacking?
I suspect Haynes have got it wrong and there is more to undo to get the fairing off, any ideas?
Good news, Mr Red, the front wheel hasn't fallen off........... yet!

Ah, yep, that made sense. 2 bolts top and two bolts bottom, fairing off!! thank you.

Yeah he got the fairing off OK, but now get no TV reception, I still think it is a rear carrier to bolt a top box to.

its been a while since I removed my fairing but am certain you can remove fairing without touching the lights , there is a couple of mounting screws below the headlights which are hard to see , feel round and you'll find them , socket on a long extension will reach them...

Just had a thought harry , ive got a spare headlight in the garage , if I get time tonight i'll dig it out and take some piccies of the mounting holes .....

I am starting to get worried now because its been a few days and I haven't seen a post started "Fairing refitting"

It's all good Mr Sharp, not had the time to do any more, plus I want to get some paint to touch up that TV aerial bit mentioned above.
I got the fairing yesterday, it's in amazing nick, like new, only slight issue, it's a more red red than my old one so won't quite match. Not sure if my bike is the correct red or if the new fairing is the correct red. Not to worry, hopefully won't show too much. Plus, being a redder red than before my bike will gain an extra horsepower or two! :b

If you decide to repaint, I found Honda Rio Red car paint from Halfords, a very close match to Yamaha VRC1. Painted my repaired belly plan, and you have to look very hard to see the difference to the tank and fairing.

Ah, that explains why the bellypan is red, the tank blue and the bodywork silver :rolleyes
