Just bought a Foxeye off the 'bay - Tallbloke - 03-12-17 Morning all, Just bought a 2003 foxeye off Ebay. I was the only bidder, probably because it's French registered. That suits me, as I'm doing up a house in southern Brittany, and need to commute from Leeds on something which uses less juice than my ancient 4L Ford Aerostar van! It looks reasonably tidy, but the photos aren't that great...Cue moody photo [smg id=3053 type=preview align=center caption="'03 Foxeye"] Anyway, I've been reading around the forum and it looks like there's a wealth of knowledge here. I'm already on the lookout for an R6 rear shock, as I'm a 16 stone tallbloke. This is only my second 4cyl bike, the last was a Z650 back in 1982. In between I've mostly been riding big twins: Norton Commando I bought for £350 (It had been stuffed into a police car and the owner wanted rid quick) Guzzi Spada 1000 (Took it round Europe, and the clock, twice) BMW R1100GS (Crashed it spectacularly when I met a car which was on the wrong side of the road on a bend) BMW R850R (Nice enough, but a bit dull) Now wanting some fun as well as a reliable mile muncher, and on a tight budget, so here I come. I'll be picking the bike up from London in a week or so. Re: Just bought a Foxeye off the 'bay - tommyardin - 03-12-17 France eh!! Left hand drive then you will have to get it converted :lol Re: Just bought a Foxeye off the 'bay - Tallbloke - 03-12-17 (03-12-17, 06:26 PM)tommyardin link Wrote: France eh!! That pretty much covers it :lol Cheap Mod but very effective Re: Just bought a Foxeye off the 'bay - Tallbloke - 04-12-17 (03-12-17, 11:02 PM)tommyardin link Wrote: Yep! If the latter watch out for UK VAT to be paid.... Was hoping to keep it French, but now discover that since I'm not a French resident, it could get messy with the French bureaucracy trying to register it to my French address... :rolleyes The bike is already here with the seller in the UK, so would VAT be applicable still? Also discovered I'll be needing mph on the speedo dial if I want to UK register it. Anyone know whether a stick-on is good enough for MOT or will I have to fit a new dial face? What about beam pattern in headlights?? Re: Just bought a Foxeye off the 'bay - mtread - 05-12-17 I think the problem is registering it with the DVLA. First they need proof that import taxes/VAT have been paid. Could end up being 20% of what you paid.https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk Re: Just bought a Foxeye off the 'bay - Tallbloke - 05-12-17 Yes, I need a NOVA certificate from HMRC. No tax duty payable on an import from an EU country, but as you say, the VAT may well be. Fortunately, I got the bike for a keen price so that won't be too big a bill if it is applicable. Re: Just bought a Foxeye off the 'bay - mtread - 05-12-17 Good news. Make sure you keep the receipt ;-) |
