new electric bike! - johnakay - 20-11-17

who's gonna buy this  a 17 year old kid? at 6 or 7 grand.
a kid isn't going to hang around so 75 miles at 60mph  isn't going to last.

It's the same old problem. Cost.
Electric bikes aren't going to take off until they're cheaper, and they're not going to be cheaper until they take off.

Are we talking pedal bikes or motorbikes ?
You can get an electric pedal bike now for under a grand.

Re: new electric bike! - celticdog - 22-11-17

Can't tell you how disappointed I am with this bike, I read it as ECLECTIC and was expecting something special.

Not impressed with those stats one bit. The bike looks kind of decent but that's about it.[/size]

It's pretty much I think I'm wasting money.

Re: new electric bike! - johnakay - 23-11-17

6 to 7 grand to much for a 17 year kid to fork out.
they'll only ride it for a year or two  till 19 and get a bigger bike
for less than 3 grand kids can get these.. ok its chinese but these have come along way since.

I for one can't wait to see the convoluted new licensing rules that will come with electric bikes. Obviously you can't limit someone to a 125cc when it's electric so how's that gonna work? A limit on Kw?

I can't wait for the 'battery revolution' so we can have electric bikes with a decent range.

I think you have answered your own question!

For me I like the petrol version - the noise, the smell the violence of it all / heat - vibration - rev it high if i want and the interaction of changing gears.

Please don't let it rain though!  Wink

I'm watching with interest because an electric moto would suit my needs well. Short London commute, great torque, no gears, less mechanical stuff to wear out. But range is an issue for the times I'd want to leave the city to go visiting.  75 miles claimed is likely to drop to 50 miles in practice.

We need modular batteries that can be swapped at petrol stations.

Yeah I want all that too but I'd use an electric bike for my short commute and have the revving petrol beast for the weekends.

Re: new electric bike! - Millietant - 27-11-17

I love the idea of electric bikes, but absolutely hate the way the makers are bringing half-arsed piles of shit to the market, before the technology is properly developed, charging exorbitant prices for them (god knows what depreciation is going to be - they'll be worthless as soon as the next development comes along) and the government is offering rebates (my tax money) to get people to buy them, all in the name of "environmental friendliness" - what a joke!

Get the technology right, then sell us something that works and that is really environmentally friendly.

Selling things that will be obsolete and replaced in 5 years at most, especially with effing batteries, is about as environmentally unfriendly as you can get.

I want a real environmentally friendly electric bike - but I think I'll have to wait a bit for that !
