Chain adjuster bolt/locknut - Flooky - 21-07-17 Hi, Don't know if this has been mentioned before but just a heads up, I thought I would have a nice easy tyre / wheel change today. The chain adjuster bolt was seized solid ( I mean solid ) plus gas , heat , plus gas , heat etc etc ..freed off . but if it had broken it would have been a drama. I pride myself in coppersliping everything, my bike is low mileage. garaged, . If you do a wheel change or chain/sprocket take the bolt all the way out and lube it all. saves later upset. cheers Flooky Re: Chain adjuster bolt/locknut - celticbiker - 21-07-17 Don't know about other makes but yams seem to be prone to this, my 8 is the same, I'll have to sort it when I get fives minutes. Re: Chain adjuster bolt/locknut - Kenbob - 21-07-17 Had that too and took them right out for a good copper greasing Re: Chain adjuster bolt/locknut - Dave48 - 22-07-17 When I collected my Tracer 700 after its 1st(600mile) service I noticed the mechanic had applied copper grease to the chain adjuster threads AND the clutch cable adjuster at the engine end. Obviously a "technician" after my own heart! :lol Simple preventive maintenance can save hours of frustration & expense-likewise with exhaust header nuts/studs as more than a few of us have found out from bitter experience! :eek Re: Chain adjuster bolt/locknut - nick crisp - 26-07-17 A timely thread. Just caught one of mine on the point of seizing. Couldn't be arsed taking them all the way out as I couldn't be bothered removing the wheel, so left them soaking overnight with penetrant fluid, then just hooked off the chain so I could get the wheel as far back as it would go in situ, cleaned them up and copper greased them today. Now both screw easily all the way in and out by hand. Re: Chain adjuster bolt/locknut - teecee90 - 26-07-17 Replaced mine with titanium ones..... |
