Re: Seized fork bottom adjuster - Mustang - 30-06-17 Ktec do replacement adjusters Re: Seized fork bottom adjuster - bwizz - 01-07-17 I got sidetracked .i'm gona take the forks of again next week .and have another go .I'll report back thanks all! Come to do the seized forks adjuster yesterday. I removed offending fork leg and drained oil. I removed the adjuster boss no probs. Observed that the adguster screw is brass so heat is not going to do much. Tried it didn't . Tried impact screwdriver no go .well stuck! Desperation now! I cut a slot all around the screwhead approx 3 mil in . Then broke away the surrounding alloy ring. I was intending to get at the screwhead with mini mole grips! I was surprised to see that the adjuster srcew is in two parts slotted together! I removed the seized outer screw and the inner brass screw adgusts fine. Not having or at that point realising I would need a new one. I decided to see if all was well when I refilled with oil. No leaks but no click adjustment now so just counted the turns compared to the other side. I fitted a rubber blanking gromet over the recessed screwhead and all seems to be well. I will probs fit a new adjuster when the messing mood is on me again. Not much oil came out of the boss so I don't think an issue to do in situe ! Progably a good idea to locktite the brass screw if you are faced with this problem. |
