A bit of advice needed for new owner. - final_edition - 17-05-17 Just a couple of questions for now. Can the gear shift lever be converted to race shift? I have also found 2 cables dangling under the bike. Look like clutch cable type. Is this from the exup? if so will they need connecting to something? Cheers. If you mean one up the rest down then yes just reverse the cupling at the lay shaft. Question is why? The cables who knows, post a picture? Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - slappy - 17-05-17 If they are the exup cables, and from your description they sound as if they are, then you may have problems. Either the exup valve has been removed or it is not working but why the previous owner did not leave the cables in place is strange. I would remove the exup valve cover and have a look. Just use the search function on here to find out more about possible exup problems. Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - final_edition - 17-05-17 I have race shift on my other bikes as I do tackdays. Dont want to blow any engines/gearboxes by getting muddled. Ok I will have a closer look at the exh system at the weekend. Not able to take any piccys atm. Thanks for the help. Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - Falcon 269 - 18-05-17 Is it a Gen 1 or a Gen 2 Fazer? Removing the EXUP on a Gen 1 is not a good idea as it does affect performance but the EXUP on a Gen 2 is only there to pass noise emissions testing, so can be disabled (cables disconnected usually and left in place) without affecting performance in any way. Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - final_edition - 18-05-17 It is a gen 1 I think (2005) not rode it yet so dont know how it performs. Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - Drew - Stag Riders - 18-05-17 I put a new exhaust system on my G2, and just left the 2 x exup cables cabletied out of the way down there, they are a pair with round metal terminations - I did want to remove the servo from under the tank, but read on here somewhere it can be trixy! Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - Dustydes - 18-05-17 Gen 1 carburetted If you ant got it get it :-) http://fazer1000.yuku.com/topic/1524/EXUP-Valve-Maintenance#.WR2XV4WcHIV The two cables will connect to the Exup motor in front vee of frame, remove tank to see it. Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - final_edition - 18-05-17 Thanks for the comprehensive link. Hopefully will get to look at it on saturday. Off to Estoril on sunday for 3 days on track :) Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - final_edition - 01-06-17 Here is a couple of pics. The valve is stuck, the servo is there and plugged in. Not run to see if cables move when revved. There is no movement of the rev counter needle when ign is turned on. Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - Dustydes - 02-06-17 Looks good, there should be another bush on the end one small on larger, check to see if its stuck it exhaust. Make sure cables move freely, run some 3in1 down them. If cables are totally knackered send me a msg I can link you to parts to replace inner very cheaply. Have you got the servo motor in place and plugged in, if you have and its working you wont get servo fault on rev counter. Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - final_edition - 02-06-17 Have soaked the valve spindle and body plate for hours. Managed to push it through a few mm now it is not shifting. It is stuck fast. Will have to get on the bearing press!! Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - final_edition - 02-06-17 Success! A bit of persuation has it off. Have cleaned the shaft and bush bore, now it rotates freely. Will have to assemble it in the right order as it seemed to be wrongly put back together by whoever was in there before. I have some hi temp wurth brake paste to use instead of copper grease. Even the timing hole lined up! Riding for the first time to the MOT stn. The suspension needs looking at. The front dives even under the lightest pressure and the back just seems to bob along on it's un-preloaded spring (A bit like Uncle Buck's car) No comp or rebound damping either. I have asked before but has anyone any links on how to convert the bike to race-shift? Re: A bit of advice needed for new owner. - unfazed - 09-06-17 I don't see any way of converting the standard gear lever/linkage set up to race shift, but it may be possible with Giles rearsets |
