Chain monkey - Kenbob - 16-12-16

does anyone use a chain monkey to set the chain slack.
If so does it give the correct slack.

I do it myself - haven't found a trustworthy monkey yet............. :rollin :rollin :rollin
(Sorry, just had to..)

Re: Chain monkey - PieEater - 17-12-16

From personal experience if properly maintained a chain will need very little adjustment once it has gone through the initial stretching process from new. So it's just a question of measuring rather than adjusting the slack to confirm everything is OK. So unless I am missing something this seems to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist and actually makes a simple job like adjusting the chain more complex than it needs to be :\

As a suggestion posting your question in the General section of the forums would give you a wider range of people who may have had experience of this product.

Re: Chain monkey - Kenbob - 17-12-16

I posted in this section merely because the fazer thou runs a slacker chain than the 600 and just wondered if the chain monkey gave the correct chain slack as per the monkey setting.

You could buy one of these, I guess they have self adjusting chains....... Big Grin

Sorry to resurrect this but yes, I use a chain monkey and no- you can't trust the instructions to give you the perfect amount of slack. Once you've got it calibrated though it's very reliable with repeatable results. Is it worth £24?? maybe if you've got several bikes.

Mmmmmmmm....not sold on that....dosnt mention anything about tight spots.....just as easy to put a tape measure behind the chain .......me , ill carry on doing it by eye    Wink

Re: Chain monkey - Rob R - 05-02-17

In the instructions it does say that if there is a tight spot you should use that point to set the slack. I must admit I still double check with a steel rule.
Mine was a well meant xmas pressie so I can't complain.
