hi all need bit help here
I bought 2004 fazer 1000 and rear tyre was dead so I order and new one 180/55/17 when I took the wheel off old tyre was 190 /50/17  :eek  so I look in workshop mannul and it say 180/55/17 so I thought some one has put the wrong size on the wheel so I took it to my local garage they took old one off and put new one on call me over and show me that's the new tyre was to small for the rim and I need 190 he said it could be r6 wheel and it was  modified  for my bike  :\  has any one has same problem as me any help ? Surprising that a garage couldn't tell it was a 6" rim.  R6 only has a 5.5" rear so it would be off something else, I put a 6" R1 rear on mine so I could use a 190, perhaps someone has done the same to yours.  I run 190/55's and they are perfect.  The wheels are not a straight swap so yeah there will have been mods to get it in.

If it is a 6" rear then you will need a 190 tyre on it really.

I run  2003 R6 front and rears on mine, they both are the same rim size as a Gen1 , did it to be able to run the same tyres as Gen1.

Front was straight swap into R1 front end, rear took a 'little' work  Wink

Re: Rear wheel r6? - topgun44 - 26-11-16

hi all
the code on the wheel say j17m/cxmt5.50 r-ov 5lv
I been looking around on the net and I thinking it gen2 rear wheel as there are 190 gen 1 are 180 ?
5lv is fazer number ?

Re: Rear wheel r6? - NorthWestern - 26-11-16

That code suggests it is a 5.5" which is the width of the std fazer wheel and would be for a 180.

What tyre are you fitting?

Re: Rear wheel r6? - topgun44 - 26-11-16

180/55/17

Re: Rear wheel r6? - NorthWestern - 26-11-16

When I fit my R1 wheel it had a Dunlop Qualifier 2 on it, a 190/50.  It was really wide, around 205.  When I replaced it with a Michelin PR4 190/55 it looked decidedly narrow in comparison.  Not "wrong size" narrow but enough to make me check the sidewall to double check they were 190's...

A 5.5" rim is the correct width for a 180 although you can fit wider/narrower of course.  You can't, for example, have a 5.5" off a different bike that needs a 190 etc.  If it is 5.5" then the problem can only be the tyre is what I am saying really.

I have a std fazer rear wheel kicking about in the garage...

thanks northwestern
I will take it to another  garage  and get another eye on this as the tyre was never blow up with air the guy said they was to much space around tyre to the rim and tyre is brand new which is  Michelin PR4  :rolleyes

Re: Rear wheel r6? - NorthWestern - 26-11-16

I get my tyres from openeo as they have always been the cheapest.  They always come wrapped in a thick cling film and are often squashed in a bit which does have the effect of narrowing the bead widths until they settle out again.  A few times I have had to get a blow torch to warm the tyre up/pull it out to get it to seal on the rims particularly in winter...

Sorry, I assumed your tyre fitter had actually fitted and inflated the tyre Smile

Re: Rear wheel r6? - topgun44 - 26-11-16

my tyre came from tyreleader fitter put the new tyre on the rim but he was saying it was to much space from the tyre end to the rim so he did not inflated the tyre

Re: Rear wheel r6? - topgun44 - 02-12-16

it does fit with racket strap and 3 heavy people to push it around the rim lol sort!
