Good battery brand? - Dudeofrude - 02-11-16 Just wondering which brands of battery are considered to be best? I've never bought one and they all sound Chinese to me haha Re: Good battery brand? - celticdog - 02-11-16 Motobatt all the way! http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,7502.msg78999.html#msg78999 Re: Good battery brand? - YamFazFan - 02-11-16 Most recent 2 that I've bought have been 'Yuasa'. They have always been well regarded, but the original fitment 'GS' battery lasted ages. Re: Good battery brand? - taylor - 02-11-16 here we go again, :'( i had a yussa with the bike it lasted about two years, then a mottobat about 3 months. so back on yussa still going great after after two years. 8) , everyone has a different opinion. Re: Good battery brand? - darrsi - 02-11-16 I just replaced my battery with the same Varta one again, i like the higher amps on it. Re: Good battery brand? - Dudeofrude - 02-11-16 I see I may have opened a can of worms here ? haha Anyways I'll look at them two brands if they are the main ones. Cheers ? Re: Good battery brand? - Dudeofrude - 02-11-16 Dynavolt seems to be cropping up quite a bit too? Also what's people's thoughts on gel or lithium batteries? Worth the extra cost? Worth the extra cost? I deal with a lot of batteries at work, and i can't for one minute imagine Lithium batteries enjoying cold weather, or being sat around for periods of time. Look for higher cranking ampage. Re: Good battery brand? - unfazed - 03-11-16 Hard to beat Yuasa Re: Good battery brand? - crickleymal - 03-11-16 Yuasa are good. I've also fitted an Exide battery in the past and it was good too (and cheap). Re: Good battery brand? - Oldgit - 03-11-16 Duracell. Re: Good battery brand? - Dudeofrude - 04-12-16 Just checking before I go buy it. This is the correct battery and it's a decent one? http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductMobileDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=1226067&langId=-1&categoryId=328751 If it's the right one the it's £40 cheaper than on sportsbikeshop? Re: Good battery brand? - dickturpin - 04-12-16 I have recently bought the Numax from Tanya Batteries...came next day. I was replacing a two year old failed Motobatt. I paid £36.25 delivered....a fraction of what you're considering at halfords....I think with batteries it can be lucky or unlucky.....but I can get a new one if it fails. Re: Good battery brand? - ogri48 - 04-12-16 I got motobatt on all three bikes. They definitely give higher amp starting, crucial on the old Harley as the starter gear fails if it's not being pushed by a good strong battery. Never had to use an optimate on any of them either, though I'm not sure if they would need a dedicated motobatt charger if I did Re: Good battery brand? - TOADY - 04-12-16 Just bought a dynavolt last week. M&P are selling motobatt trickle chargers on ebay for less than twenty quid too, I bought a baby boy trickle charger for 18. 99 to keep the battery topped up Re: Good battery brand? - darrsi - 04-12-16 (04-12-16, 05:02 PM)dickturpin link Wrote: I have recently bought the Numax from Tanya Batteries...came next day. That would be false economy then? Why not get a decent one in the first place that is unlikely to fail? Don't know why though? Do they have special terminals or something? I have the Oxford solar optimiser. Has always done the job and best of all its free to use. Just stuck it on the side of the garage in view of the sun and the wire plugs into a little socket on the side of the bike. Think it was £30 so cheap enough too Re: Good battery brand? - dickturpin - 04-12-16 (04-12-16, 10:05 PM)darrsi link Wrote: [quote author=dickturpin link=topic=21338.msg247058#msg247058 date=1480867344] That would be false economy then? The ones you do need a special charger for are Lithium ones, like Shorai. They can be fried with a standard optimate or the like. I think the reason a lot of people think Motobatts need a special charger is because they make their own and probably try to sell you one when you buy a battery from them :lol |
