fz1 motor swap - sadlonelygit - 16-10-16

has anyone swapped a 2004-6 R1 motor into a FZ1 yet?
a claimed 172hp is a good deal better than the MT10 :evil

Re: fz1 motor swap - stevierst - 16-10-16

It'd be easier to flat bar the R1 than swap the engine into a heavier chassis.

Don't know where you got 172 bhp, more like 165 as far as I could see but the R1 weighs about 173kg, any benefit will be lost with the extra weight of the FZ1 IMO, not to mention the loss of bottom end torque.
As for competing with the MT10, it's not just about numbers, it's the whole package. The electronics, the chassis, the short wheelbase and the way that peach of a crossplane engine produces its power.

But then I may be biased  Big Grin

i can see the clutch actuation is different on the motors but apart from that..........

been offered a cheap fz1 with only 3 big ends, and as EVERYBODY moans about the power output being a mere 135+hp i thought it might be a larf dropping a full fat motor in there.

We'll anything will fit with enough skill and man hours but as was said above, it's be far easier and cheaper to buy an r1, tear the fairing off then stick on some risers and flat bars. You'll already have sport suspension, sport brakes and a ridiculously powerful engine.
Of course you may just be wanting to make something unique. In which case don't forget to post photos ?
