Any guitar fans out there - joebloggs - 06-10-16

Someone foced up and sent me a fender Stratocaster from the us, two questions 1 what's it worth and 2 what would you do

Re: Any guitar fans out there - greg1953 - 06-10-16

Value depends on the exact model, there's dozens of versions.

Where can I find serial number?
If its worth more than £100 I'm quids in

It depends massively on what sort of strat it is, how old it is, and where it was manufactured. Could be anywhere from a £80 replica to a £1000+ custom. I would probably message them personally, but I know plenty who wouldn't.

Have a look for any labels or markings around the headstock, may help to narrow down the type and model more exactly.

If it's a U.S. Strat but NOT  a signature model then prob worth around £500

Be very careful before you assume what people will pay. I had a '79 Strat, 3 bolt neck which were unpopular  (folks said they were unstable - not that I ever had a problem with it). Bought it for £400 sometime in the 90s, sold it for same about 4 years later. Then I saw an exact same model in Macari's in Charing Cross road, up for £2k!  :eek

Stratocaster make guitars under licence in Mexico, unfortunately they're not worth as much as US made.

Well I don't think I'm going to get rich quick selling it and I wouldn't be surprised if its the carrier thats messed up so I've asked for a refund, ideally I'd like the exhaust I ordered in the first place.

If it did somehow once belong to Hendix I guess I'll kick myself but I'm honest and if someone paid good money for it they're welcome to pay the return postage and I'll send it back.

Well things got really odd when I got home from work today, there on my doorstep was an exhaust shaped box, which contained, yep, my exhaust.

Looking at the labels on the cartons, it seems that the bloke who sold me the down pipes had nothing to do with the guitar, so who the hell did.

As for the Fender, I wonder if its fools gold or the real thing. I know foc all about them apart from they sound good and are twats to play but I looked at a few web sites and if it is genuine it could be from the mid 60's or at least the neck may be. A mate's going to pull the neck off and check for serial numbers so we'll know for sure.

Just remember that it's *not* yours. You have no legal ownership of it and keeping it would be theft.

IIRC what you should do is contact whoever sent it and tell them that you will return it when they pay the costs (so you won't be out of pocket for their mistake) or arrange for a collection at you reasonable convenience and give them a reasonable time (I think it's a month) to do so, otherwise you'll treat them as an unsolicited gift.

IANAL, so check beforehand and don't try to just flog them off!

Years back I was expecting a deep fat fryer (remember them ! ) from littlewoods but instead I got an electric hair clipper, when I rang they said just keep them as the return post to them would be more than the value and they would resend the fryer. Great I thought and let my misses cut my hair, it didn't go too well as she kind of used a stabbing motion instead of the sweeping one a real hairdresser might use, I looked like a mangy hyena .
