Not running on all 4 pots properly - Johnnylad123 - 03-10-16
Went out for a spin on Saturday and did about 100 miles no problem. Fired it up this morning to ride to work and it isn't running on all 4 pots properly. Can smell unburnt fuel when I'm close to the bike but it's still rideable, just hesitating at low revs, ie: below 3000rpm. Any ideas before I start ripping it in pieces!!

You gotta be checking the plugs first.
I had a misfire on my GSXR6, but couldn't find which cylinder was the culprit.
Lifted the plugs and one of the set WASN'T that lovely dry sandy brown. One of my coils was going down - swapped it - SORTED.

Had a similar problem when I first got my bike. Turned out to be a plug which Falcon diagnosed whilst trying to balance the carbs after carrying out his Ivanizing magic.

can you start it and let it idle then touch the downpipes (quickly) to see which is coolest. this should be the one to check the plug of.
although if one plug is faulty then i would change the lot

Save your fingertips - squirt water on the headers instead.
Check plugs first. Then plug leads - remove from the cable and trim 1/2" off each cable to get back to good core.
If it isn't either of these, suspect a leaky needle valve seat O-ring in one of the carbs.

Thanks for all that people, number 1 plug was black and I've swapped it but still not perfect. Will take your advice Falcon and do the lead next as removing the carbs looks a right mare!! Numbers 2 & 3 cylinders plugs look nasty to get at too so think the AIS needs removing as a matter of course, is it a difficult job?? What do I need to blank the pipes off?

UPDATE: no success with a plug swap (what a nightmare to do!). Suspect the culprit now is to do with the pilot jets as it runs ok when you get moving ie: above 3000rpm. Bike is presently residing at Rea Racing waiting for a carb strip and clean, will get her back later this week.

on my bike i had a problem the same as yours and it was the pins in the coils where the leads push on to, mine had corroded and one had broke, i did the stick coil mod and the problem went away, now runs perfectly (well it did before i took it off the road)

Yep, leads trimmed but no difference.

UPDATE: Now got the bike back and after carbs stripped and cleaned up bike is back to running like a good 'un. Cheers Ben!!
