Valve Clearance - Scottyboy - 05-09-16 Afternoon, Planning on checking the clearance soon, but in advance I would like to know any bits and bobs I would need before proceeding.. I.E. New seals etc? I heard from a few mechanics (at yamaha dealerships) saying that when removing the big (water?) pipe that goes down through the top of the engine, I would need to replace a seal as once it has been removed, it is no longer any good. I'd appreciate any and all feedback regarding a valve clearance check. My mate is very handy with mechanics, welder by trade and has built trucks, bikes the lot - but as this is the first Fazer clearance he has done, we are just getting feelers out there. Thanks Scott Re: Valve Clearance - Falcon 269 - 05-09-16 Handy guide here: http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/fastfranksvalvecheckadjustmenttips.shtml You don't need to remove those water pipes, so no O-rings not required unless you decide to take them off to clean 'em up. Just pull the hoses off and then remove the cam cover. As Fast Frank says, the cam cover seal is re-usable but you need to put a wipe of blue gasket goo around the Ds at each end. Be wary of dirt in the coolant hose cavities dropping into the motor. Blow them clear with compressed air if you have it. No need to remove the timing cover, although FF prefers to do it that way. I never have. Hopefully all will be in spec so you won't need to pull cams and do shim swaps. ![]() Re: Valve Clearance - PieEater - 07-09-16 If you're following the Haynes manual when doing the valve check it says that you need to remove the carbs - you don't. Also the clearance for the exhaust valves is 0.21 to 0.30 not 0.21 to 0.25 as stated in the Yamaha service manual and the Haynes manual - http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,18746.msg216402.html Re: Valve Clearance - Scottyboy - 08-09-16 Thank you both very much. |
