help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - malcolmmcdonald - 14-07-16 Yeah, noticed it last week. A hole - not a tear - kind of oval and a few mil across. On the vinyl seat of my '01 FZS600. No idea how it happened, but I'm now trying to figger out how to repair it. If it was a tear, I'd probably just put some vinyl underneath and glue the "flap" down. But it's a proper hole. My first idea: 1. slip a piece of similar vinyl (a bit bigger than the hole itself) into the hole 2. spread it out so it covers the hole from underneath 3. work some glue around under the rim of the hole 4. leave the glue to dry under pressure from the foam inside the seat That's all I got. Three questions for you brilliant lovely people: (a) Does that sound about right as a remedy? (b) Any other ideas? © What kind of glue do you think? I thought the kind you get in bicycle repair kits... Thanks folks, Malc Re: help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - Streetbudgie - 14-07-16 Just an idea but what about a bicycle puncture repair kit? help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - Exupnut - 14-07-16 Don't bodge it ....get it done or do it properly or else it will look naff Re: help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - Bretty - 15-07-16 Buy a precut bit of vinyl of that auction website and a hefty stapler and recover it. I did mine a few months ago and with a bit of patience, looks proper good. Re: help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - darrsi - 15-07-16 If you want it to look naff then repairing it is the way to go. First things first though, you wanna cover that hole with anything for starters, once water gets into that foam it will eventually turn it to mush and it will rot. Plus eveytime you sit on it the chances are you will get wet. Or back in the real world, get it recovered properly. As suggested, get a new cover off Ebay, you will need a very heavy duty stapler, and preferably someone to help you to do it as it can be fiddly. My old neighbour did mine, and she used to be an upholsterer for Rolls Royce, but i still helped her when she replaced it for me. If you're not confident doing it, get it done properly in a shop, because if you make a right pigs ear out of it, it can really spoil the bikes appearence, as can strips of Gaffer tape covering a hole. You could try and find another seat going cheap, but chances are it'll have the original seat cover on as well and will also need doing again in the near future. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-FZS600-Fazer-Seat-Cover-1998-to-2003-/302012044502?hash=item46515214d6:g:lWUAAOSwl8NVbi3W Re: help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - sinto607276 - 15-07-16 Where do you stay? Maybe someone near you has a spare seat that they can lend you while you get yours repaired or can even put on one of these covers from fleebay for you. Re: help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - hotmetal - 15-07-16 I bet some scummer put a fag out on it, or someone leant something pointy on it. Splits are common but just a random little hole is a bit weird to happen on its own. Re: help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - Punkstig - 15-07-16 I'll just leave this here - Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121009515891 Re: help! I've got a hole in me seat, man! - Shinigami - 18-07-16 the hole description id say is 99% chance it's from a cig, my bike cover has a few of them from one of my muppety mates chucking cig ends from our old balcony and the wind catching them and them landing on the cover... -_- |
