Renthal handlebars - Dustydes - 09-07-16 Hi What do you folk do when fitting Renthal bars Do you grind off the locating lugs on throttle and switch gear or drill new holes in new bars? I'm guessing remove but just want to know whats recommended Des Re: Renthal handlebars - Tmation - 09-07-16 I removed the pegs on mine and then put some tape around the bar, it's easy to strip a thread in the switch housing. Re: Renthal handlebars - robbo - 09-07-16 I drilled mine. Measure twice, jobs a good'un. Re: Renthal handlebars - dazza - 09-07-16 I didn't do anything when I recently changed mine. There was a locating hole on the throttle side of the bars but no locating lug so simply just screwed up the switchgear. Other side was the same but without a hole in the bars so just screwed the switchgear up. So, there you go, 3 replies and 3 different answers :lol Re: Renthal handlebars - mickvp - 09-07-16 I did as tmation did. Filed the lugs off and out some tape round Re: Renthal handlebars - Dustydes - 09-07-16 Thanks for all reply's will have a think tomorrow when brain is not muddled with alcohol Des Re: Renthal handlebars - PieEater - 10-07-16 The problem with drilling is that it can take a few rides to find the best position for the bars so you could end up having to drill more than one hole which is going to dangerously weaken the bars. Re: Renthal handlebars - robbo - 10-07-16 The thought of the throttle deciding to slip on the tape at an inopportune moment convinced me to drill mine.I suppose the left side is the only side to readjust if you don't like the bar position.Personally I wouldn't advocate drilling more holes if a realignment is necessary. There's another choice, drill the throttle side and file/tape the other. Re: Renthal handlebars - Dustydes - 10-07-16 For SkidT As I cant add pics to Msg's Admin ??? Re: Renthal handlebars - SkidT - 10-07-16 Thanks very much Des. Ignore my last PM. ? Re: Renthal handlebars - Dustydes - 10-07-16 Too late mate :-) Re: Renthal handlebars - Dustydes - 14-07-16 Went down the mark and drill route. All put back together today apart from tapping bars for my R&G bar weights. (Just in case your wondering standard bar thread is M16x1.5) Took her out for a ride and what a difference they make. Never would have thought they would make so much difference but they do. Drops into corners just the same, as it would, but feeling is much smoother if that makes sense, more control. One of the best mods I have ever done for £30 Des Re: Renthal handlebars - Andy W - 14-07-16 Just put Rentals on mine...big difference & well worth it. When changing bars on bikes, I have always gone the "get rid of the locator pin route" & never had a throttle slip yet! Just my experience, other's may be different! Re: Renthal handlebars - Dustydes - 20-07-16 Just to add You don't have to drill bars to fit weights. But to make it easy use a taper cut tap and cutting compound or grease. Take it easy and counter turn tap regularly. You can remove swarf after with thin piece of wood covered in grease |
