My mate had the same issue with having the chain snap and smashing a hole in the crankcase. He took the sump off and collected all the broken bits, then cleaned out the bottom of the engine and got the pieces of crankcase and rebuilt with liquid metal. Runs fine with no leaks.

Re: WANTED.....Gen 1 complete running engine - dazza - 03-07-16

Thanks for that Nickodemon, once I get it out I may look into something like this. The hole it made was quite large and so far I have only recovered two large pieces and several small bits so piecing it all back together is going to be painstaking but interesting that it worked for your friend. Thankyou.  :thumbup

Re: WANTED.....Gen 1 complete running engine - nickodemon - 03-07-16

Liquid metal can cover any small missing pieces. The sump cover is easily removed it's simply undoing the bolts and removing. You will need to buy a new sump gasket and take the downpipes off for good access. When you have sump cover off you will get a good view of the crank. My mates crank had marks on the counter balancers on the crank and it still runs as before, so as long as you remove any debris it should be fine. Smile

Re: WANTED.....Gen 1 complete running engine - dazza - 03-07-16

Good to know, thanks. All my exhaust header nuts came off OK bar one which is rusted so bad the socket wont get a purchase on it. As soon as I can undo that one and remove the headers, I will drop the sump and look for debris. I'm assuming he done this with the engine still in place ?

Re: WANTED.....Gen 1 complete running engine - nickodemon - 03-07-16

Yes, engine was still in place. It honestly isn't difficult as he is in no way a good mechanic. Simply get the bits stick some liquid metal between the parts and try and piece them together. Once you have attached the bits let them set. Once they have hardened smother the crankcase in liquid metal to cover the cracks and missing bits. Wink

Forgot to add if the header nut is rounding buy a torx socket and hammer it on to get the foccer off :lol
