Fastener question - joebloggs - 22-04-16

Thoughts on using stainless/titanium round bar to make one off bolts (nut and washer each end)

Looking for replacement bolts for suspension links and the two longest bolts (with my rose joints) would need to be about 160mm, not easy to find metric fine fasteners at this length, I'm reducing the bolt diameter to M10 and want to use 14mm AF flanged nuts.

I know its suspension but if you measure the length of the spacers the bolts don't appear to be there for nothing more than to keep the spacers in place (Think clevis pins)

Thoughts, be as brutal as you like

Would be fine, there is no lateral load, in fact I have had bikes where they are held in place with a split pin and washer.

My thoughts exactly

Just asked for a quote from a company who supply Ti and offer a thread cutting service, providing they don't come back with a silly price I may go for that.

Thanks

Just had a quote for two lengths of 10mm Titanium rods threaded both ends, £53............ Me thinks stainless will do very nicely

I don't know is the simple answer, I'd finished it once (remember the shorty guard) but then I took the angle grinder to the rear sub frame and changed a few bits, lets just say the front and rear suspension should be finished in a few weeks. That only leaves the electrics, seat pan recovering, new tank mount, re jet the carbs, paint................. I can come out in the car lol
