FZ1 Gen 2 - Chinese radiator experience? - FZ1obp - 13-04-16

My 2009 FZ1 has had an on going radiator leak that I've tried to ignore - mainly caused by riding through the winter and rotting out the bottom of the matrix. I've bodged the leak with a 2 pack sealer and it's partially stopped the leak..... but now it's getting warmer I think the leak is going to spread.

I posted a question before on what to do and the answers are approx.:
Buy Yam original from UK
Buy Yam original from USA (better price and exchange rate)
Buy Chinese one from Ebay - £100. BUT has anyone fitted one yet? They all seem to come from the same manufacturers (just different sellers). Was thinking if it lasted a couple of years then it's fine? Does it fit ok including the fans etc?

Any thoughts - many thanks

Look for a good second hand one , ebay!

I bought a Chinese radiator for the CB400 that I am restoring - and it didn't fit. Too wide to take the original surround by quite some distance. It was cheap however, but no use to me. If that's any help?

Guys - thx for this - had another look on ebay and there was a new OEM for £250 so have bought it!
Hopefully should fit ok and maybe better quality than the Chinese ones unless they are all made in the same factory........

Wow, I hope I don't have to replace one at that price! Good shout getting an OEM. All the Chinese stuff I've ordered has either been impossible to fit or falling apart after a couple of weeks.

Glad you got your radiator. Did you check out any Yamaha dealers in the Euro Zone? Not sure what the exchange rate is now, but when I was looking for bits it was much cheaper to get parts from Italy, Spain or even Germany!

For anyone else with the same problem, I've got a 70 quid chinese radiator on my Gen 1. It fitted fine and it's done a few thousand miles now and it's not leaked yet.

It is definitely not quality though. Very thin mounting lugs and seems to lack solidity. I did slap another 3 or 4 coats of paint on it before I fitted it, so who knows how long it will last.
I will be getting my old radiator re-cored by the local radiator specialist for when it goes west, and the prices aren't stratospheric, so have a word with your local guys (Serck are good and nationwide)
