too much play clicky throttle? - Billy:) - 06-04-16

Hey all, first problem with my new fazer! I've changed handlebars to renthal ultra lows feels better than standard but. I took the throttle housing apart so I can file off the locating pin. put it back together and it has way too much play and doesnt snap back properly. tried for ages to find why checked the cables and cable end position and throttle assembly with no luck. given up for today, I hope you guys can sihne some light on the issue?

Cheers

Billy

There's two points of adjustment for the cable- one is on the cable a couple of inches away from the throttle, the other is more fiddly down at the carbs.
With regards to 'snapping back' it's dead easy to use excess glue or whatever sticky substance you used on the grips which fouls the throttle tube and the bar!

its like 40% of the throttle is play ive tried the adjustment at the throttle end but doesnt do much. is it possible for one of the cables to slip off at the carbs? as one of them seems too long although its standard

the cable sleeve slip off I mean*

Anything possible but it's doubtful, there is greater adjustment available at the carb end so looks like you need to get the tank off and have a look.
After fitting my T'cat front end the cables are too long (both fazer and t'cat ones) I'm at maximum adjustment but still have a lot of throttle play, changing the distance sounds like you're in a similar position to me but as your bars aren't so extreme you should be able to get rid of the play at the carbs

Hmmmm. Will have to have a go at the carb adjustment. Its doing my head in the amount of play i have, I never noticed it when i got it with standard bars so it's just puzzling me how it could have that much play and not snap back properly it just does slowly, at first i thought i've put the throttle assembly back together wrong but tried again loads and seemed like it'll only go back together one way so gotta be something else.

Is there a fuel petcock switch under the tank?

As soon as you lift the tank you'll see the fuel tap fella.

Throttle not snapping back does sound like either the throttle tube has something fouling it or the cable has snapped or come off- it's pretty easy to take off the tank and investigate!

Found the problem. one of the cables slipped off the bracket on the carbs.. bugger. Managed to get them back on and bottom nuts back on but cant tighten them with spanner. no room. fiddly as fuck Sad Soo gonna try again tomorrow without moving back the airbox and carbs cos I'm stubborn.

Re: too much play clicky throttle? - unfazed - 08-04-16

Short spanner is required  :thumbup
