Shims - IMM - 16-03-16

Hi to every one i am in a dilemma,  i have an FZS 600 engine to rebuild no real problem in the rebuild but i am now at the head stage of the re build, i have nearly all the shims but am on missing one, the problem i have is the shims were all mixed up and dont know which one goes where the dilemma  is how the hell do i know or work out what shim goes where, any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

If you've no reference to go on you'll probably have to take a guess where they go and assemble it and measure the clearance, then swap them around

:agree  The one your missing, let's hope it's not dropped inside the engine. I think you're going to need feeler gauges, a mag pickup and valve shim tool. Plenty of youtube stuff out there for research, good luck fella.

Yes have miss placed one shim could kick my self lucky for me though i have the head off the engine at the moment so no fear of dropping one into the bottom end is there a common shim that is used as standard so you can measure the valve clearances from a neutral position? Im thinking a shim say .200 on every each bucket measure the clearance to work out the shim needed??

How about working out the average size of the ones you have then use one closest to that average to measure them all.  Confusedmokin  That should get you started. Then you'll be able to work out which need changing.  :thumbup
