rear disc's - stevie-g1968 - 13-03-16 bike passed its MOT yesterday, with an advisory for the rear disc and pads. been poking about on fleabay and can get a Chinese rear disc for £23. anybody else used them? also have the made of cheese bolts, my mate has a tool for these, do I refit yam one or some of the titanium ones? ta , steve. Re: rear disc's - darrsi - 13-03-16 Avoid Chinese discs, it's false economy. The rear disc is a hell of a lot cheaper than the front two, so just buy a decent brand. As for the bolts, be prepared for a shocker getting them undone. Because the disc is fixed to the wheel rather than being floating, the heat transfer tends to fuse the bolts to the hub and they can be a nightmare to remove. Personally i would say stick to OEM bolts, although others will undoubtedly have their own opinion, but either way buy them before attempting to remove the old ones so that they are on hand. Plenty of heat, and swearing, seems to be the preferred method of success on getting the bolts to budge. Re: rear disc's - RMT1983 - 13-03-16 I've got a good rear disc from a 600 for sale if any good? Re: rear disc's - RMT1983 - 13-03-16 and for bolts, I've had stainless and titanium and there all a poor size and round incredibly easily!!! gone back to standard torqued up correctly Re: rear disc's - Fazer Forever - 14-03-16 When I was changing my rear disc I found that all bolts started turning. Brilliant! Easy job. Three then snapped and with MOT re-test looming I got hold of another wheel. I think the end of the bolt goes through the wheel into the hollow part around the hub. Crap on the end of the bolt then seizes it when it gets in the hole as you're un-doing. Get genuine bolts, they're surprisingly cheap, seem to remember mine came from Fowlers via my local bike shop. |
