Scottish Independence - lew600fazer - 30-01-16 Has anyone noticed how quiet it has gone since the bottom dropped out of the oil industry. Just saying. :rolleyes Re: Scottish Independence - mtread - 30-01-16 That'll be our fault then..... Re: Scottish Independence - celticdog - 30-01-16 I think the big issue now is British Independence Re: Scottish Independence - nickodemon - 30-01-16 The independence campaign was not dependant on oil as they knew it was going to run out in the next 10 - 15 years. The SNP wanted to use the remainder of oil as a bonus and to be used to aid the infrastructure of Scotland before it dried up. They found that Scotland had a sound financial footing to support itself without the oil. Re: Scottish Independence - lew600fazer - 31-01-16 Do you mean in the financial sector, RBS, Bank of Scotland etc!! :rollin Re: Scottish Independence - nickodemon - 31-01-16 Why do you think everyone in england/northern ireland want to keep Scotland as part of the Uk if it's a financial mess and is costing you money? There are lots of people who put our shared heritage and friendship above the whims of faddy, idealistic fly-by-nighters. those who voted to stay shared that belief. Re: Scottish Independence - nickodemon - 31-01-16 That is a true statement about loyalty and friendship. Re: Scottish Independence - markie_wales - 31-01-16 In terms of wanting Scotland to stay, I have the same feelings towards Wales and NI, and it is nothing to do with money. The U.K. as a whole has done all sorts of great things together. The NHS. The building of a railway system. Fighting in WWII. Helping each other financially when things are tough. Lots of things. I am not saying some/all of these things would have been possible if we all went our separate ways, but I genuinely believe we are stronger together. In the independence ref, I think there was too much focus on the finances and not enough on the philosophy of unity / independence (depending where you sit on that divide). Hang on here do the Welsh not get a vote?? yea maybe not as Wales is only a principality after all :evil Re: Scottish Independence - markie_wales - 01-02-16 (31-01-16, 03:37 PM)lew600fazer link Wrote: Hang on here do the Welsh not get a vote?? yea maybe not as Wales is only a principality after all :evil As my Welsh wife points out they are now indeed a country (in 2011 I think). Can't say it's changed much ![]() Cheers Markie Re: Scottish Independence - lew600fazer - 02-02-16 I know I take the piss about this issue but hand on heart the United Kingdom is a much better place with Scotland still onboard than without, let's face it an independent Scotland may refuse to take all the refugees the rest of the UK do not want.
