Front brake not activating rear brake light - slinky2000 - 11-01-16 Is this a common problem? This si my first bike so I'm not 100% sure, but on my pre ride checks I noticed my front brake lever wasn't activating the brake light. Would this be the microswitch on the lever or something else? It's a 2000 fzs600 boxeye. Anyone know where the best place to get a replacement online? Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - bandit - 11-01-16 You should hear it click when you pull the lever in if it don't it's probably broke. Put FZS600 Front brake switch into Ebay. ![]() Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - Deefer666 - 11-01-16 There's a micro switch under the front brake lever, sometimes these break and sometimes the wires get pulled off. Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - Fazerider - 11-01-16 As Deefer says, I've had the wires to the switch break and the switch itself fail. If it's the switch, you may be able to get it working again by dismantling and cleaning, but it's a fiddly job. Don't be tempted to buy one of the cheap aftermarket replacements available on ebay, they corrode like mad and the internal spring is too weak... a used genuine one is better value if you don't want to pay Yamaha's price for a new one. Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - Jules-C - 11-01-16 I've had to replace my switch a couple of times but genuine Yamaha ones aren't expensive. The last replacement was several years ago so Yamaha may have improved the quality of them. I assume the brake light is working when the rear brake is applied ruling out blown bulbs? Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - BBROWN1664 - 11-01-16 Sometimes the plunger just gets stuck in (as held in when brake lever released) so a squirt of WD40 and a bit of prodding will fix that. Alternatively the plunger may have been broken or the wires to the switch have been broken. Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - slinky2000 - 11-01-16 cheers guys. It's still clicking and wires look intact, but no light on. Yes the light comes on with the rear brake applied so it's not the bulb. I'll check the wires properly when I get home from work and try and clean the contacts etc and see what happens. if not I'll source a new switch somewhere. Anywhere online I can get a genuine Yamaha one? Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - bandit - 11-01-16 AJ SUTTON, put in model & year, you will find it in braking under front Master cylinder pic. ![]() Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - slinky2000 - 11-01-16 (11-01-16, 06:10 PM)bandit link Wrote: AJ SUTTON, put in model & year, you will find it in braking under front Master cylinder pic. Nice!!! That's a cracker website. I'll be using that in the future! Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - HarryHornby - 12-01-16 As others have said, fairly standard thing to go wrong, had to change the switch on my old Fazer twice, once because it broke and again because I bought a cheap one off Ebay to replace it and it stopped working the following winter. Re: Front brake not activating rear brake light - slinky2000 - 12-01-16 Got it sorted last night, turns out the connections to the switch were corroded and just needed cleaned up. I order a microswitch anyway just to be safe in the future! |
