windows 10 - maddog04 - 11-01-16

my pooter has just give a pop up asking if I want to upgrade to windows 10, I've had a quick search on here but the answers were prior to or just as 10came out. I'd imagine any bugs have been ironed out by now so is anyone on here using 10 and can they recommend it or not?

cheers

Re: windows 10 - darrsi - 11-01-16

I actually really like it.
I'd say it's similar to 70% Windows 7, and 30% Windows 8 (which I didn't like at all)

Once you've done a bit of jiggery pokery and customised things to your own liking it's not too different from Windows 7 to use, with a few improvements of Windows 8 chucked in.

Definitely worth getting while it's free, 'cos you'll only end up getting it in time anyway.

I don't touch the new Edge browser though, as it doesn't allow Whatsapp Web or Adblock, and I can't be doing without them, so I still use Google Chrome which works fine with it.

I had problems initially after downloading it all with Chrome being unresponsive or just slow, but I used ADWCLEANER and it got rid of the problem and everything has been fine ever since.

Re: windows 10 - bigsteve - 11-01-16

when upgrading it keeps a copy of your old O/S  so u can roll back if you want or delete it later to free up any were up to 20 gig it uses for the save

Re: windows 10 - unfazed - 11-01-16

I upgraded my 6 year old Toshiba laptop to windows 10 shortly after it came out. It  had generally the same start up time as win 7, about 3 to 4 minutes  to settling down with fast boot switched on , but with loads of event errors. Programs were no faster than before. Out of curiosity I decided to back up the disk to a spare and wiped the original disk.
What a difference with windows 10 loaded from scratch, from switch on to usability less than 2 minutes with fast boot switched off, everything is a little faster and no more event log errors. The updated release of windows 10 now installed it is slightly better.
One recommendations is to go into the privacy setting and switch off any you do not want, there is no reason to have Microsoft tracking of you. Switch the feedback off and the Diagnostic and Usage to basic this cannot be turned off easily, unless you are using the enterprise version.

Re: windows 10 - dickturpin - 11-01-16

As Darrsi said ...avoid the Edge browser...sometimes doesn't allow attachment with emails...no solution offered

Re: windows 10 - unfazed - 11-01-16

:agree I used it for an hour and went back to firefox, not a big fan of chrome or Internet explorer.

Re: windows 10 - locksmith - 12-01-16

My accounts package is win 95 !!!!
It runs on 7 but I doubt it'll work with 10 so I'm having to stick with 7.

No one I know has got windows 10 so I cant try it.

Re: windows 10 - maddog04 - 12-01-16

being a computer novice, it looks like its either installed edge itself or I've allowed it. Would rather have IE with google as my home page like before but with the added extras of windows 10.
googled how to get rid of edge but it seemed long winded to me, can anyone offer a quick fix?
cheers

Re: windows 10 - maddog04 - 12-01-16

really pissing me off now, how the foc do I get rid of this shite and do a system restore to my windows 8.1?

looked at doing it but the previous restore point offered was when I reactivated the avg free anti virus.......don't look like the previous sytem restores that I've done in the past

HELLLLLLPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: windows 10 - BBROWN1664 - 12-01-16

Give it a little time.

IE doesn't exist on Windows 10. It is called Edge. Same thing really, just the next version. Works just as well and can use Google as your home page.
An alternative would be to use Firefox as your browser. I have always used IE (and now Edge) as they are there and never really had problems with them but also have Firefox and Chrome installed for the odd website that doesn't like IE.

Re: windows 10 - BBROWN1664 - 12-01-16

and.....if you prefer 8.1 to Windows 10, you need to book yourself an appointment at the local loony bin :pokefun

Re: windows 10 - fazersharp - 12-01-16

I run 2 computers here at sharp hall, my work one which is xp and the family one that I brought with the focer font of knowledge help and that one is win 7 that I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to go for from the old family xp machine.Going from xp to win 7 everything looks far too "messy" and unnecessary.
As for win 10 - same as going from xp to 7 I don't like new things, I don't want to have to re-learn how to do stuff, xp worked, win 7 wont accept some of my software for example I have a pro scanner that in their wisdom epson do not supply a win 7 driver for, there is a long winded work around that I have yet to try but its just more shit I have to do and learn for no reason.

Can someone with win 8.1 or 10 confirm for me if something has been sorted from win 7

In xp I can move photos around in a folder and drag and drop them to re order them how I want, I can then re name them all in one go and xp will number them for me.
Win 7 wont let you drag and drop to re order photos within a folder, when you try it just snaps back to where it came from. So does win 8.1 and win 10 behave the same way, anyone?

Re: windows 10 - crickleymal - 12-01-16

I can't upgrade. It keeps telling me my Nvidia graphics card (on board graphics so can't change) isn't whatchmacalled for Windows 10. The PC is only about 4 years old.

Re: windows 10 - BBROWN1664 - 12-01-16

Fazersharp, With Windows 10 you cant seem to be able to drag/drop to re-order the photos but the multiple rename works.

No need to get rid of it, it's not doing any harm, just don't open it up.
As I said before, Google Chrome works fine with it, just download and install that then set it as your default browser when it asks you.

Windows 10 is honestly better than 8 or 8.1, just give yourself time to get used to it.

Re: windows 10 - BBROWN1664 - 12-01-16

:agree

Windows 8 and 8.1 are crap (and that's from someone who works in IT)

Re: windows 10 - maddog04 - 13-01-16
