don't forget the factor in your import charges, 20% on the purchase and also the postage! then there is usually a £10 handling charge!!!

doesn't seem that good when you look at it like that!!!

but guess what! I've got a couple for sale! haha

still works out a lot cheaper than what you can get in the UK, I know a few guys who have bought them from USA and it's worked out best for them.

Re: fazer 1000 caliper on ebay - RMT1983 - 12-12-15

£24.98 cost + £39.07 postage = £64.05 + 20% VAT = £76.86 + £10 Handling charge..................... £86.86 oh and I forgot to add the 2% import charge!!!

I know this as ive been getting a lot of stuff imported from USA recently, you wont pay tax and import if its below a certain amount but since these weigh a bit your unlikely to get the postage very cheap so you WILL end up paying extra.

as I said, I have a couple and ill do them for £70 each...........................

Not going to bun fight with you as your not selling like for like :b

My experience is a lot cheaper than your calculations, but you pay your money you take your chances in whatever or wherever your buying from, simples Smile

how can your calculations be cheaper? It is only cheaper if the initial outlay is cheaper! Unfortunately there is no getting around VAT and import charges once you hit a certain cost. I'm not going to start having a bun fight either but I don't want guys ending up paying more than they bargain for when DPD turn up asking for a chunk of cash and your suddenly looking for extra cash or refusing delivery and loosing out on the initial postage costs..............

I'm happy to dig out all my import sheets that ive got in the last couple of months for you to see for yourself........... unless of course you don't live in the UK then your lucky!!!

Aha well, thankfully we've all got a choice of where we buy from and that makes life better having choices.

Re: fazer 1000 caliper on ebay - joebloggs - 15-12-15

Sorry to butt in but I've just purchased some parts from the US and I've paid the seller for the item + p&p they've been dispatched.

When and where are the import charges applied. will I be billed through the post?

Re: fazer 1000 caliper on ebay - Exupnut - 15-12-15

The company shipping will hold the item and u will get a chit through the post. IF you do incur any levy that is. Sometimes u don't.

Here you go  https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty

Re: fazer 1000 caliper on ebay - sinto607276 - 15-12-15

The only bit that really relates to goods from the USA, (as that's where this has all kicked off about), is the bit on CUSTOM DUTY....

So, if I've read it correctly,

Anything under £135 = +postage +vat

Anything above £135 = +postage +vat + duty

Re: fazer 1000 caliper on ebay - joebloggs - 15-12-15

I found an online calculator and came up with a total of about £11. Inc what I payed the seller thats still less than any I saw from UK.

Thanks for the info

Re: fazer 1000 caliper on ebay - mtread - 15-12-15

Yep that's it. You  pay UK VAT if you import from outside the EU ie USA. So VAT if value > £15, unless it's a gift in which case it's >£36. Customs Duty as well if it's > £135. That applies irrespective of whether the seller is a business or a private sale.
If you import from inside the EU you don't pay Customs Duty, but you do pay the VAT rate of the country of the seller (unless it's a private sale, in which case you pay neither).
