possible leaking carb rubbers.... fix? - Paulfzs - 04-12-15
title says it all, any easy fix for cracked carb rubbers..
Some sort of clear spray?
I looked into silicone spray but appears to just be a lubricant version (is this any good on chains btw?)

They may not be as bad as you think - they have to look very bad before that actually leak.
A fix is silicone sealant used for bathrooms,windows, building you can get it in black smear it in your crack :eek . also self amalgamating tape ontop of said silicone when dry or just the tape on its own.
I think that the problem mostly affects the outside ones (sun damage)

I don't think it would be suitable for chains. I've been using this chain lube recently and it mentions it being silicone free on the can...

Silicone helps a bit but it probably has more of a placebo effect than any real improvement. If they're properly cracked bin them. Ebay has reasonably priced ones.

I got some high temp black silicone from ebay, I just filled in the cracks, not sure if mine were leaking but I did it in the hope that it might slow down the deterioration of the carb rubbers. That was 6 months ago.

I dont think its the cost so much (is it ? ) but more like the faf in changing them, from what I hear the new ones are a pig to get back on

Basically done the same here for the same reasons. Done over a year ago and still looking/running good.

Not a big problem just soak a clean lint free rag in WD40 and wipe it around the ends of the carbs and the inners of the manifold rubbers. Like sex they slide right in :lol
Make sure the clamps are loose. A good guide is to have the screw end level with the end of the nut.
