Thoughts on Jumpstarting?? - dickturpin - 19-11-15

Bluecol do a car to car jumpstart thing that feeds into the cigar lighter of donor and recipient vehicle and after a few minutes has allegedly put enough charge into the battery to allow it to start...I've seen them in asda for about £15 I recall, and a bit cheaper online.
I've also seen tablet size batteries with crocodile clips that simply clip onto car or bike batteries and away you go....these seem to be around £30 upwards. (good for keeping in glovebox?)
Anyone used either?

The 600's are really easy and responsive to bump start, would've thought the 1000's would've been the same, other than a bit more weight to manage?

Thatll cost more and take longer to get you going...

The 1000 is so easy to bump, I have even done it on dirt.  I spent three months everyday commuting with no start button, bumped every time with just a few steps.  Bottom of a hill?  Push it up the hill, turn it around then bump on the way down.  Takes all of two min really.

That said if you are unable to bump start for whatever reason those jump boxes are OK, guy at work has one but they won't crank the engine long so if you forget your choke or something it's another half hour wait.

Get on her, ride downhill, at max speed let out the clutch in 2nd gear . . . she'll let you know if she's got any life left in her.  Wink

I've bumped the 600 on the flat just running with it and jumping on. Bit edgy but can be done. Only necessary after accidentally packing luggage while leaving lights on in, middle of nowhere in Scotland. Lot quicker than recovery. Suspect battery packs a good idea though given can also charge phone etc. Andy

Re: Thoughts on Jumpstarting?? - darrsi - 20-11-15

Was a long time back now but i had a wiring issue when i did the headlight mod, and if i took the bike out for a long spin it would totally drain the battery.
Only took about 10 feet of movement and it bumped into life, i was pleasantly surprised.

No way i'd run with it though, i have one of those rubber mesh mat jobbies on the rear seat to keep a passenger planted, and if my boot made contact with it i can only imagine it would all get rather messy.

I have a 12V Jumper Pack, similar to the one shown, I got mine from eBay.com at around $80.

It is excellent and have used it many times to jump start cars and charge my phone.

Hopefully you don't need it too often and you have to charge it every few months.

I can recommend one.

The jumper pack I was looking at on Amazon for around £35. Just thought it looked a useful bit of kit if it worked as well as advertised. Good to hear from someone who has one.
