Fuel system cleaner additive - YamFazFan - 18-11-15 Has anyone used it?. Does it work?. My FZS 600 is running very poor from cold start-up now. Quite easy to start still, but feels like it's only running on 2/3 cylinders until I get 100 yards or so down the road and past 4/5k revs, when normal service is resumed and it runs and revs cleanly. Once warmed-up the running is much improved and feels like it's running on 4 all the time, but still feels hesitant and rough below 4/5k revs in any gear. The idle speed has also dropped significantly. The bike is completely standard, low mileage (under 7000), regularly and recently serviced. The bike often sits for several weeks between runs and i'm wondering if the issue is carb deposits caused by deteriorated/evaporated fuel?. I'm hoping for an easy fix before investigating further ![]() Thanks in anticipation. YFF. Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - darrsi - 18-11-15 The ONLY one I've ever had results with is STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner. Use half a bottle per full tank over 2 tanks. I normally use it once a year. Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - Woodzey80 - 18-11-15 When I got my bike ivanised Mike told me to use redline fuel system cleaner & after trying it I have to say it's the Badgers bollox !!!! I see Halfords do STP. Thanks fellas. Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - darrsi - 19-11-15 Make sure it's the 'complete' petrol cleaner, there's 3 or 4 types but this has more concentrated cleaning properties in it. OK. Cheers for info. Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - HarryHornby - 19-11-15 Might have to give this a go myself! http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/fuel-oil-additives/stp-complete-fuel-system-cleaner-petrol-400ml Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - darrsi - 19-11-15 If you're not in a hurry, or tighter than a gnats chuff, then you can save a few quid on Flebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STP-Complete-Fuel-System-Cleaner-Petrol-400-ml-Car-Engine-Protect-ST50400EN/121621735870?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3D6cb0d4ef1fbb4d7588123cbc6a5bc94d%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D261978813128 Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - Punkstig - 20-11-15 +1 for stp, although personally I've never needed it in the fazer, just other bikes! Mrs is well happy ![]() Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - YamFazFan - 20-11-15 If the poor running at low revs issue with my Fazer is being caused by pilot jet/s blocked with evaporated fuel residue, how likely is it that fuel system cleaner additive is going to shift it?. Would it probably require carburettor removal and dismantling to clear it out?. Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - NorthWestern - 20-11-15 Years ago I bought one of the original round headlight Fireblades that had been stood for years unused. When I took it for a spin it barely ran, wouldn't pull 4th gear and sputtered all the way. I expected it to clear after a week or so but it was the same. I used some fuel cleaner, redex or somesuch from Halfords just to see if it did anything. Cleared up a treat and I never had to take the carbs apart or anything. It ran perfect for a few years before I sold it. Theres hope in them thar hills! Plus for the price its worth a shot, as long as its running and pulling it through the system it should clean it enough to make a difference. Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - His Dudeness - 20-11-15 I like to know my bikes are running 100% so I'd take the carbs apart and clean everything. I think an afternoon's work for the assurance that it's running at full fitness is worth it and you always learn something doing it. I've ridden a couple of far superior bikes some of them nearly new that in my opinion were running worse that my 20 year old bike. Shitty dragging brakes with no feel, badly adjust clutch cable, flogged chain over due oil but I suppose ignorance is bliss. Nothing beats proper maintenance and doing the job right the first time. Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - YamFazFan - 01-05-16 Update: I added a can of Motul fuel system cleaner to a tank of fuel, but unfortunately didn't notice any difference in the running of the bike ![]() However, I have noticed that the down-pipe of cylinder number 3 is significantly cooler immediately after a ride than the other three, so I guess the problem is with that one. Re: Fuel system cleaner additive - Brimage11 - 01-06-16 I use one called Seafoam. Buy it off ebay for about £13 works a treat! put it in the oil aswell, clears up any residue out the oil and on internals. Quietened down my lifters aswell. |
