Radiator guard screws - msewelly - 15-11-15

Hi,

Recently acquired a fzs 1000, decided to get a nice radiator guard however the stock one which is held in with to bolts at the bottom is being a nightmare to take off. I've tried pretty much everything, greasing them, impacting them, but they still wont budge and just seem to worsen. Any tips to get them off?

Have you tried heating them up?  Mine had threadlock on and were  a bugger to undo, didn't like to use too much force in case I damaged the radiator.

Heat is the solution. Mine were horrendously corroded and I thought it was more likely I'd snap them off undoing them, but a couple of seconds of heat with a blowtorch and they came out without a problem.

I had similar problem on 600. The reason is chemical bond between steel screws and aliminium radiator.

On 600 the screws are allen key. If that is the case you can use slightly bigger size torx.

I have used T27 Torx and a hammer to tap it in and a lot of penetration fluid.

Then you carefuly tighten slightly to break the bond. Then untighten. Again thighten. After it breaks you can go.
