hello from Norwich - divrod - 07-11-15

Hi everyone just picked up my first big bike. 2001 FZS 600 in black. A year's mot. 16k on the clock, tinted screen, rear hugger, other than that I think it's bone stock.
I'm sure I'll be bombarding the boards with stupid newbie questions. So with out further a due, here's my first.
How much £'s to fill her up?

The fule light was on when I picked her up so I just put in £12 to get me home. Fule indicatator now says just below quarter of a tank is that right?
I was expecting around £20 to fill her up. So by my logic should be half full (ish), Although I plucked that number out my ass.
I'll try and post a picture. Lovely weather for it ay. :/
Any advice on just do mods/things to check would be welcome.

Hi and welcome.
I think you will find the the fuel gauge is not quite accurate , like most bikes  Smile

Nah, it's got to be sprayed red Smile

But apart from the colour it looks a great bike, welcome aboard Smile

Fuel wise, you'll get various responses as but I put roughly £18 to fill her up from empty and have been able to do 260 miles but that was quenching my cheeks to get home :lol

Re: hello from Norwich - mr self destruct - 08-11-15

Hi there. Being a relative newbie myself, I found out the fuel gauges are notorious for reading empty when the tank is less than 3/4 full, and I have the same problem on mine.
It's never really bothered me though, I just fill up when the trip meter hits 200 miles, which works out at about £20.

Re: hello from Norwich - divrod - 08-11-15

Cheers guys. Thanks for the answers and the welcome.
In regards to colour. I never thought I'd have a black bike, but now I do, I love it.
Red would have been my prefered choice.
I had no idea about the extra bhp for turning it blue tho :lol. Does this apply to everything if I turn it blue?

Amen brother foccer

Re: hello from Norwich - mr self destruct - 08-11-15

I'm gonna have to revise that to 180 miles. I'm currently sitting on the hard shoulder of the M6 waiting for Green Flag. :-(

Re: hello from Norwich - divrod - 10-11-15

sorry to hear that mate. Hope you got back alright and it was just fuel?
so we're saying for the FZS600 trip the odo after filling up, go 180 miles, fill her up again and I should be golden?
maybe once i've filled her right up the gauge may kick into life.

Re: hello from Norwich - Val - 11-11-15

Hello and welcome  Smile

I usually fill it with around 15-16 litres and do about 150-170 miles. That means I never got near the reserve.

Re: hello from Norwich - Robbie8666 - 11-11-15

1st of all welcome
2nd if I fill up on centre stand and squeeze 19l in I get 180/200 miles if riding moderately (long run on A303/A30)

Re: hello from Norwich - divrod - 11-11-15

Brilliant, cheers guys. Crackin' forum btw.

Re: hello from Norwich - mr self destruct - 11-11-15

Yeah just fuel mate, biggest bummer was I missed the end of the MotoGP I was watching at work!  :lol

I think you'll be ok at 180, I usually get 200 out of it, but I reckon I didn't fill it up all the way last time.

Re: hello from Norwich - divrod - 11-11-15

My first big plans for me and bike are 1. New tyres 2. Start planning.
I want to go to the Moto GP in Assen Next year. Ferry prices are pretty decent if you book early. Harwich isn't a bad run for me, then google reckons 3 hours from hook of Holland  to the gp circuit.
As my plans gather pace I'll start a thread and see if any other focers would like to join.

Re: hello from Norwich - divrod - 19-11-15

Can anyone tell me how do I know what tyre specifications/dimensions I require?
Does this info come from the rims?
All I know is I need new ones, I want pilot road 3's.
I've read diffrent sizes 120/60 and 110/ 70both for the front (i'm just as clueless for the back) How do I know which right for my bike please? Thank you
Any advice apreciated
