Naked mod - best headlights - Hermanji - 12-10-15

I'm considering going naked. Any hints on best (but not too pricey) headlights?

Twin or single?

Halogen / LED / HID?

I've already got projectors from previous owner - is it worth hanging on to these and is there a headlight set that will take them?

Thanks

It's all down to personal choice and budget Hermanji, A single round light will give you the classic old skool look but it's not for everyone.
If I was going naked on a budget then my choice would have to be the looney light!

But it really is your personal preference . . .

I agree it's all down to personal choice at the end of the day, it's your bike, do what you feel like doing Smile

If you ride on unlit roads forget the loony light. A candle would be of more use.
Dam things should be banned from sale

Busa lights look good but you need to knock some mounts up. May not be as good looking as some of the aftermarket lights but at least you can see where your going

:lol  Good point about the candlepower, I guess they're well named- looney by name looney by nature!

I suppose there are a lot of options out there. I've just seen some that use the HID projectors bolted straight on without a housing. This makes sense as long as they're weatherproof!?

I might consider this as it's a cheap option using what I've got and looks pretty sweet.  :lol

That would depend on the type of projectors they've used. But as you stated they bolted on without a housing, that would make them NOT waterproof.

There are projector lamps available that are waterproof but whether they have HID in them is a different matter.

My mate has a set of projector lights but it's just led's in them, they are quite bright but I wouldn't like to use them to see the road ahead.

Re: Naked mod - best headlights - joebloggs - 12-10-15

Yeah, they're OK I've seen um on submarines

Re: Naked mod - best headlights - Hermanji - 16-10-15

right, my projectors aren't sealed units so I'll definitely need a housing. I'm now thinking twin 7 inch to look like big bug eyes. I might need to modify the backs to fit them in but I've seen some cheap plastic ones in a local shop... I feel a nice little project coming on!

7's focin wide, and brackets will be a nightmare unless you go bottom mount

Re: Naked mod - best headlights - Hermanji - 17-10-15

yeah, maybe 14 inches of headlight is too much. I thought I'd seen some but maybe they were smaller. Stacked might work though... I'll shop around a bit more

Re: Naked mod - best headlights - joebloggs - 17-10-15

I used a couple of 5 1/2" car driving lamps on a 350LC which looked OK, mounted them off the bottom yoke Had one for hi one for low (both had 60w halogen's). Never had any issues with police and was going to just pop the std light back on come MOT time but sold it before it was required

These twin lights are also an idea although not sure about lighting quality

Does anybody else use these?

They look tidy. Trouble is, I'd like to maintain the quality of lighting I already have with the projectors but lose the fairing... It might take a bit of trial and error. Perhaps I'm being too picky?

I might try something I've seen on a USA custom bikes forum with pipes, fibreglass and perspex to make a housing for the projectors. Making sure they're road legal is the main thing.

Nice one. Looks pretty straight forward then.
